This story of three sisters begins with Paige, the oldest,
who's responsible and trustworthy. She spends her time
alone, jogging and watching the new releases from
Blockbuster. Paige is uncomfortable around her gay ex-
husband; she did get their condo in the breakup, due in
part to having recently made partner at the law firm where
she works as a divorce attorney. Everyone from her mother
to her shrink agree that Paige needs a boyfriend, but not
everyone approves her first choice, particularly her sister
Sophie.
As the middle sister, Sophie is needy, demanding and very
pregnant. Her hormones are making her emotionally unstable
and she's simultaneously remodeling her kitchen, flirting
with her carpenter and completely breaking down. Reliable
Paige is always just a phone call away to help pick up the
pieces, but after the baby comes, Sophie is so angry with
her husband, who's constantly working, that she takes some
drastic measures.
Mickey is the baby of the family, a surprise who came along
10 years behind her older sisters. She misses some of the
daily drama while she's away at college, but everyone lauds
her with attention and praise because she's going to
medical school next year. they couldn't be more proud. When
Mickey comes home after graduation with some different
ideas, she has trouble convincing Paige and Sophie that
she's making the right decisions.
Worst of all for these three sisters, their mother and
their father actually appear to be on speaking terms. After
putting the girls through years of divorce arguments with
plenty of yelling and bitterness, how could their parents
even think of reuniting?
Each sister tells her section of the story in her own
distinct voice. The sisters are very close and they chat
frequently, but it's only when I got inside each woman's
head that I began to understand their individuality. Cute
references to literature and pop culture make it easy to
identify the upper-middle-class world these women inhabit,
and they're aware that their possessions, hobbies, home
décor, careers, lovers and families are all part of what
makes them unique individuals within their less-than-
functional family. With multiple storylines and engaging
characters, this book exceeded my expectations for a light-
hearted and romantic family drama.
The Cassel sisters have little in common besides a pair of
wacky parents and a maddening knack for eluding happily-
ever-after endings. But when their lives require damage
control, only a dose of sisterhood will do.
Paige, the oldest, is a go-getter divorce attorney who’s
reeling from her own disastrously failed marriage–and the
fact that her ex has suddenly come roaring out of the
closet with a cute boyfriend in tow. Middle sister Sophie
is having trouble adjusting to life as a wife and expectant
mom. With her doubts on the rise along with her weight,
she’s ogling every available baked good–and every available
man–that crosses her path. And up-and-coming medical
student Mickey has a racy new plan for her future that’s
sure to shock her entire family. It includes a dangerously
handsome, decidedly married chef…private cooking lessons…
and spicy lingerie.
To top it all off, the parents who dragged them through the
Divorce from Hell years ago are acting like teenagers in
love…with each other! One by one, Paige, Sophie, and Mickey
are about to learn just how good it is to have a sisterly
shoulder–or two–to lean on.
