She sees him as the man who could end her freedom. She experiences an attraction to him that she has never known. She receives a thrill being in his presence, but their encounters soon become a quest for survival as Lucien is forced to carry out his duty. Yet she cannot help but wonder what would it be like to know a man, to have someone love her, to never be alone? Will she be able to find someway around this death sentence?

Gena Showalter has added a fantastic installment to her new series. Once again the characters drive this wonderful tale. Lucien is a very tormented man who takes his duties very seriously. He has to succeed to ensure the safety of his fellow warriors. It is very easy to understand what motivations drive him. Anya loves to taunt her charms to Lucien; half hoping he succumbs to her and half hoping that he does not. She is very aggressive and willing to fight for what she wants. We still receive glimpses into the lives of the other Lords to sate our cravings, but there are quite a few developments that are left unanswered. THE DARKEST KISS captivates the reader and holds them spellbound until the end. I cannot wait for the next offering.
