When Hildy Caldwell receives an invitation to her 10-year high school reunion, she resolves to put her life in order. Once voted the Girl Most Likely to Succeed, Hildy has never gotten out of her hometown, and instead has become The Girl Most Likely to Never Do Anything. She teaches English at the same high school she attended and lives with her two cats. Worse yet, her old boyfriend Mike has become a successful businessman and is engaged to a super-model.
Michael Amante is the boy Hildy has never gotten over; the man she still secretly loves. Spurred to action by the invitation, Hildy decides to take the entire summer to plan the rest of her life. A change of residence is her first step, so she takes her savings and rents a summer house near the Atlantic Ocean. When the school year ends, Hildy packs up her cats and drives off in search of a new beginning.
What Hildy finds on her summer sojourn is an antique amber bottle with a genie inside. Antonius Eugenius was a Roman soldier stationed in Judea. Cursed to spend eternity in the bottle after getting frisky with one of Herod's women, Antonius has been granting wishes to one "master" after another for centuries. Antonius (Tony G) sees Hildy as his way out of bondage. Tony is Hildy's good luck charm and in return, he expects her to be his. Hildy is about to come out of her 10-year hibernation and there was never a woman more ready.
IF WISHING MADE IT SO couldn't be more fun -- a great summer read. The "I wonder what ever happened to my old high school boyfriend" is a great hook and Ms. Finn runs with it. Tony is a bit different from what you'd expect from a genie in a bottle story and the last chapter is a hoot.
