Hannah Wentworth never dreamed that discovering
her ancestry as a D'Anu witch would eventually draw her
into a life or death battle with an evil goddess and her
demon minions. After Ceithlenn, the goddess of Underworld
and ruler of the Fomorii demons, escapes Underworld and
begins searching for her lost husband Balor on the streets
of San Francisco, Hannah and her sister witches find
temporary shelter in Otherworld, the land of the Elves and
the Fae, where they can regroup and create a plan of
attack.
Knowing that they are greatly outnumberd by
Ceithlenn and the Fomorii, the D'Anu witches and the Fae
D'Danann warriors decide to seek an alliance with Garran,
the King of the Dark Elves. A small group of witches and
warriors led by Rhiannon, a D'Anu witch who also happens
to be Garran's daughter, enter the underground realm of
the Dark Elves, where Hannah is rocked by a powerful
attraction to the sexy and powerful Garran. However,
Hannah is suspicious of Garran's motives, especially
because he was largely responsible for the release of
Ceithlenn and her demons from Underworld, a mistake which
the elves paid for with many lives, including Garran's own
brother. Even though Garran has suffered for his poor
choices, Hannah refuses to trust him, so she blames the
uncharacteristic lust she's feeling on Dark Elf magic,
which is known to be very seductive.
Intrigued by the strong and independent Hannah and
hoping to help his own people in the process, Garran
agrees to join the Alliance in the battle against
Ceithlenn, but on one condition; Hannah must remain with
him as a liaison between the elves and witches. Garran is
determined to convince Hannah that, despite her earlier
suspicions, he is not only an honorable ruler, but a
sensual lover as well, one who can tempt her in ways no
other ever has. But Garran must also hide a secret from
Hannah; a great power which was bestowed upon him by the
Great Guardian of the Elves herself which, once unleashed,
can send all attacking demons back to Underworld, but
which will cause Garran to become ill the first two times
he uses it, and which will likely kill him the third time.
When Hannah uncovers his plan, she vows that she will
prevent him from sacrificing his own life for the defeat
of the evil goddess, but when Ceithlenn and her demons
launch a vicious attack on the tourist piers in San
Francisco Bay, Garran realizes that he has no choice; not
when he has the power to save all those he loves.
SHADOW MAGIC is the latest book in Cheyenne
McCray's D'Anu witch series, which began with FORBIDDEN
MAGIC. I loved this book! The series is well thought out
and the pace is perfectly structured so that you can't
wait to find out what happens next. Every character,
whether good or evil, has some quality that you can relate
to, even when you don't agree with what they're doing, and
you find yourself sympathizing with them, which is quite
an achievement when the villains are more evil than Darth
Vader. The interactions between Hannah and Garran are
sensuality at its best, while both remain strong and true
to who they are and what they believe. A solid story that
is wonderfully executed. Bravo!
When Hannah Wentworth temporarily flees her life in San
Francisco to join her sister D’Anu witches in Otherworld,
she vows to help them conquer the evil bent on destroying
the human realm. But the only one who can help her happens
to be the king of the Dark Elves. The father to her
nemesis, Rhiannon of the D’Anu. And the one man Hannah can
never, ever trust...especially because of her dangerous
attraction to him.
ARE COMING TO LIGHT...
Garran knows that the beautiful, headstrong Hannah is wary
of him for having banished his people to a life
underground. But now Garran can right that wrong by helping
her and the other gray witches in their dangerous battle in
San Francisco—even if doing so means sacrificing the
passion he’s found only in Hannah’s arms...
