Prosecutors make enemies. Bad guys just don't like getting
caught and that's the simple truth. Another truth is that
prosecutors make mistakes and when they do the consequences
are anything but simple. Faith Barclay needs a break from
her all consuming job as prosecutor and most specially to
recover after a couple of tragic outcomes. As a defender of
justice she learns that the system doesn't always work and
she is left with guilt and a strong sense of responsibility
toward those the system failed. She is a strong gutsy woman
who decides to spend time at the family cabin, in the
mountains, for some much needed rest and relaxation.
There is a lot of history waiting for her there and she has
to decide whether to take a chance on leaving herself
vulnerable. Zach McCallum has also returned to Thunder Creek
but he's there to stay, hell bent on proving that he's not
the rough and tough kid that ran away from trouble all those
years ago. Faith and Zach have history too and neither has
forgotten it. Question is whether or not it's worth
reinvigorating a very short relationship that seemed doomed
from the start. But the largest challenge will be to stay
alive. Someone has a bone to pick with Faith and has tracked
her to Thunder Creek. Through a series of harassments, some
benign and others violent, someone from one of her cases is
out to settle the score, but before exacting revenge the
plan is to make her suffer by targeting her friends.
THUNDER AT DAWN is fast reading and at times frightening
story about keeping one step ahead of a revengeful lunatic
when there are no rules. No one is safe. That is what really
keeps the reader at the edge of the seat -- no one is safe.
The secondary theme is that people make mistakes and there
are repercussions. No matter the mistake, people have to
make choices of how to dust themselves off and start over
again. Jill Gregory makes her characters likeable or hateful
but believable avoiding superhuman tricks. That's what makes
this story enjoyable and so engrossing you won't be able to
put it down. Gregory takes you through quite a few twists
and turns and surprises until you get to the root of the
crimes. Nothing is what it appears to be.
TWO LONG-AGO LOVERS. ONE UNFORGETTABLE PASSION.

putting bad guys behind bars. But the work is starting to

free, Faith escapes to her family’s cabin in Thunder Creek,
far from the big city and the recent menacing calls that
have her spooked. When she arrives, she encounters another
kind of danger: Zach McCallum, the sexy, wild-hearted cowboy
who walked out on her ten years before.
