A wedding is the perfect place to enjoy a one night stand
with a good looking stranger; at least that's what Marcee
Robbens believes. She's not looking for Mr. Right, she's
looking for Mr. Right Now, and she's certain hunky Sam
McKelvey fits the bill. Marcee invites him up to her room
for a drink, expecting a quick detour to the bedroom, but
when Sam slows things down for a while, Marcee's surprised
to discover that she enjoys his company, with or without the
sex. But when Sam leaves the next morning and doesn't ask
for her number, Marcee's left feeling rather disappointed.
As the months go by, her disappointment turns to
frustration because she can't stop thinking about Sam. The
connection she felt with him has left her craving more than
casual affaires, and for the first time she's beginning to
believe that she deserves more. Marcee makes a pledge to
change her life for the better, and starts by moving back to
her home town of Ellwood to look after her teenage half
brother, Camden, who is suddenly in need of a guardian after
their mother took off with her latest lover. Marcee
remembers how unwanted she felt at Cam's age, and she's
determined to protect her brother from that pain.
No sooner does Marcee arrive in town, than she discovers
that her new next door neighbor is none other than Sam
McKelvey. Shortly after their fateful night at the wedding,
Sam left his job in Chicago as a police detective and took a
position as sheriff of Ellwood so that he could spend more
time with his seventeen-year-old daughter, Fern. Having
grown up in Ellwood, Marcee is aware of how quickly gossip
spreads in a small town, and the last thing she wants anyone
to know is that she had sex with the new sheriff.
Thankfully, Sam doesn't want any gossip which might get back
to Fern, either, so the two agree to keep their past in the
past and become friendly neighbors.
But battling their attraction is harder than either
imagined. While Marcee's determined to keep her vow to hold
out for more than just sex, she still feels a strong
connection to Sam unlike anything she has ever known. Sam
doesn't want a new relationship to take his focus away from
Fern, but he's fascinated by Marcee's spirit and
determination, and her luscious body is very tempting.
Whenever they're in the same room, sparks fly, and neither
can forget the passion they once shared, and could share
again, if the entire town wasn't watching their every move.
Can love possibly bloom under the intense scrutiny of small
town life?
ONE NIGHT STAND, the follow up to WHEN SHE WAS BAD,
explores the good, the bad, and the ugly of small town life.
I enjoyed getting to know Camden and Fern, two very
perceptive and responsible teenagers, who end up teaching
Marcee and Sam a thing or two about love and family, as well
as the dangers of making assumptions based on appearances.
An entertaining read.
Which is probably why Marcee Robbens found herself in the arms of a sexy stranger before the bouquet was even tossed at her best friend's wedding. And after a night of hot caresses and knee-weakening kisses in handsome Sam McKelvey's arms, even happily single Marcee is humming the wedding march. So when the sun comes up and Sam hits the road, the usually tough-as-nails beauty finds herself nursing a tender heart. . . .
Sam's not the kind of guy who would have a super-hot hook-up with a woman he barely knows. But something about Marcee had him mesmerized—enough for this usually sensible single dad to abandon his responsibilities for one unforgettable night. But Sam never thought his one night stand would turn up as his new next-door neighbor. Or that once he glimpsed the soft side of this captivating woman, he'd find himself falling in love. . . .
