Romance Suspense

Just what was Breed Grayhawk thinking having the hottest sex with a stranger he meets at a bar â€" whose name is Grace Smith. Yeah right. Okay well maybe he wasn’t exactly thinking at all. But Grace had the advantage. She knew who Breed was and set up this meeting â€" although the sex was definitely a bonus â€" so that he would owe her a favor when called upon. While he is still recovering from this lapse of judgment he discovers that Grace is a convicted double murderer who is now wanted for parole violation. Her policeman father and her stepmother were murdered and Grace was sentenced as a juvenile. The abuse she and her stepmother suffered at the hands of her abusive father was considered more than sufficient as a motive for the murder. Grace was shattered by the death of her stepmother who so often put herself in harms way to protect Grace but the authorities weren’t even looking for any other suspect and used Grace’s grandmother to convince her to plead guilty and put herself at the mercy of the court. So now having served her sentence her mission was to find the real murderer from a list of possibilities that she developed from her fathers unsolved homicides. The last name on her list was none other then Breed’s boss - FBI agent Vincent Harkness. Next step is to burgle Harkness' house to look for any clues that could tie him to the murders. But Grace has no idea what she is going to uncover and what peril her discovery puts her in. There is something very sinister going on in the Harkness family and now she has endangered herself. Time to call in that favor.

Breed’s allegiance is to Harkness who has mentored and supported him all these years. He also questions Grace’s motives and methods until certain undeniable facts start to surface. He now has to make a decision that will determine his future. A decision that puts him on the wrong side of all he believes in... or does it.

After reading this latest book by Joan Johnston I did something I’ve never done before. I sent an email telling her to basically hurry up with the next installment. There are several intertwined stories in A STRANGER'S GAME and each is so compelling it could be it’s own book. This is definitely the best in the Bitter Creek series and if you are a Johnston fan you won’t be able to put it down. And if you’re not yet a fan it will make you one--of this I am sure. The passionate relationship of Grace and Breed develops slowly throughout and leaves you hungry for more. The good cop â€" bad cop twists and turns will have you clenching your teeth in anger. What more can you ask for. Johnston delivers.

SUMMARY

From New York Times bestselling author Joan Johnston comes a dazzling new Bitter Creek novel that features all of the passion and intrigue in Texas high society that her readers know and love, mixed with an explosive, spine-tingling tale of murder, wrongful imprisonment, and a woman who counts no cost too high to see a killer brought to justice.

FBI Special Agent Breed Grayhawk has the hottest sex in his life with a stranger who calls herself Grace Smith, only to discover early the next morning that her real name is Merle Raye Finkel -- and she's a convicted double murderer who broke her parole a year ago and disappeared. Now she's his prime suspect in a terrorist threat against the U.S. president.

Grace Caldwell is determined to find the killer who framed her for the murder of her father and stepmother -- and make him pay. She burgles the home of her #1 suspect and nets a surprising haul: a hot-pink, silk-covered diary -- the record of a sex-addicted wife's adventures -- which suggests that Grace's #1 suspect isa serial killer. But her theft has been caught on tape, and the man she's been chasing becomes the hunter...with Grace as his prey.

With just five days until the president arrives in Austin, Texas, the last thing the FBI needs is a serial killer on the prowl...and a terrorist suspect who will stop at nothing to clear her name. The clock is ticking down, and Agent Grayhawk is racing time to discover the truth about his dangerous lover.
