Hannah Matthews, a New York public relations executive, is
struggling with her fear of dying following her mother's
recent death from breast cancer and she herself just having
had a mastectomy. Hannah is divorced and has a daughter,
Kelsey, who attends college in California. Hannah has come
to Seaview Key, Florida, a small island where her 85-year-
old grandmother now runs the Seaview Inn by herself, to
move Grandma Jenny into assisted living. Grandma Jenny and
Hannah's mother jointly operated the Inn that's been in the
family for generations.
Being deserted by her father as a child, Hannah, her mother
and Granny lived together. The return to Seaview Inn brings
many bad memories to Hannah, and she can't wait to get back
to New York. All of her well-laid plans are thrown to the
wind when Kelsey shows up pregnant and drops out of
college. To add more stress, Hannah's old flame from high
school returns to Seaview Key.
Luke Stevens, whose touch still leaves Hannahh short of
breath, is also dealing with a divorce, as well as a
shattered leg as the result of a car bomb while serving as
a surgeon in Iraq. His wife is going to marry his business
partner, so Luke is trying to heal a lot of pain. With all
the baggage Luke and Hannah are bringing to their rekindled
relationship, they both come to realize what's important.
Is it the success and money they have acquired? Or is there
something more meaningful for both of them right here in
Seaview Key? Working through Kelsey's pregnancy, Luke's
concern for his two children, Hannah's cancer and Grandma
Jenny's care, they must face reality and grab what they can
from life.
Sherryl Woods has woven a tender and very beautiful
tale of real people coming to terms with deepest sorrows
and feelings. How each of them deals with a crisis is a
true learning experience. She's a very talented and
interesting author who knows how to weave a warm and
heartfelt story depicting the existence of the love of a
close-knit family. I especially loved the wittiness and
real knowledge of Grandma Jenny. I definitely will be
watching for new novels by Sherryl Woods. This is a
book that will have you laughing and crying at the same
time.
Hannah Matthews is undeniably tough — a single mom, a top-
tier PR exec, a breast cancer survivor. She prides herself
on being go-to Hannah, who can handle any crisis. But with
her eighty-five-year-old grandmother balking at going into
a retirement home, her twenty-year-old daughter
unexpectedly pregnant and an old flame suddenly underfoot,
Hannah is facing a few crises of her own. And being back
home on Seaview Key is most definitely adding to the
stress.
