Zoe Martinique is a young woman with a unique ability. During a vicious rape, her spirit left her body and traveled to other places. Ever since then, she's been able to separate from her body at will. With such an unusual talent, she has made a career of it. Zoe gets an assignment and sets out to listen in on any kind of behavior or conversation.
One night while working, she witnesses a murder. The killer sees her and grabs her arm. Now, she's running from a killer and trying to help the detective on the case figure out what is going on and who is behind it. All without revealing her secret.
Zoe is helped in her quest by her psychic mother, the ghosts of two men who inhabit her mother's store and her best friend. It's very helpful to have a best friend who is not only a witch but has highly developed technical skills.
This was a fascinating glimpse into a world that only a few could even imagine. I got a little lost when the explanations about who and what could travel the astral plane started taking place. By the time that took place, I was so involved in the story and the characters that nothing could stop me from finishing the book.
Zoe is a delightfully quirky character with an offbeat sense of humor and the strength to overcome the physical and emotional trauma she's had to face. The secondary characters were charming and added to the enjoyment of the book. Lovers of urban fantasy won't want to miss this book. If you've been reluctant to start an urban fantasy, let this book whet your appetite for the genre.
Teaming up with a blue-eyed police detective, she tries
to solve the case and improve her love life. She also
enlists the support of her psychic mother and the ghostly
couple who haunt her house. And with murderers, kidnappers,
and a desperate ex-porn star involved, Zoe needs all the
help she can get.
