Cissy Cahill Holt is going through a multitude of trials. Her first trial involves her soon to be ex-husband, Jack, who cannot seem to get it through his head that they are separated. While trying to reevaluate her marriage, she has to deal with her child, BJ, who loves his father dearly. To complicate matters even further, her mother has escaped from prison, so she has reporters and police camping out at her house. She thinks that nothing can be any worse when she arrives at her grandmother's house to find her dead. She brushes that off as an accident even though there are homicide detectives on the scene, but when other members of her family die under mysterious circumstances, she has to be on the lookout for a killer. Why would someone start killing off members of her family? Can her mother be behind these familial murders or not? Is she in the line of fire?
Anthony Paterno is a homicide detective whose lot in life seems to be dealing with the Cahill family. He was involved with putting Marla Cahill behind bars ten years ago, and now he is determined to find her whereabouts. When a call comes in involving the Cahill estate, the last thing he expects to find is Eugenia Cahill dead at the bottom of her staircase. Is it truly an accident or is Marla somehow involved? When a second and then a third member of the family end up murdered, Paterno cannot deny any connection between the murders. What is the motive? Could Cissy be murdering her relatives? She is the common link, and she is under surveillance, but it is a possibility. He comes up with more questions than he has answers. After all, what does anyone but family have to gain from these deaths?
Lisa Jackson has crafted another fantastic spine-tingling thriller. Her novels are wonderful and multifaceted. I like that she tells the story through numerous points of view and brings them all together for a stunning conclusion. I enjoyed this book and found the Cahill family fascinating if not a bit disturbing. ALMOST DEAD is another brilliant novel with many twists and turns. I highly recommend anything written by Lisa Jackson, and ALMOST DEAD is a good book to choose.
