Cauley (pronounced Collie) MacKinnon is an obituary writer. It's not that glamorous of a job but she's hoping to branch out into writing breaking news articles for the newspaper. When she's not hauled up in the office tackling her never ending pile of obituaries to write, she's out with the Search and Rescue team, with her adopted dog Marlowe. Search and Rescue is a team of volunteers who work with dogs and train them to find people when they're missing.
Cauley is lusting away over gorgeous FBI agent Tom Logan, but he's always busy with work or off on an assignment. When Logan calls on Cauley in the middle of the night to help him with a top secret mission, she jumps at the chance to spend time with the sexy FBI agent.
Logan needs Cauley to write a fake obituary for a guy named Puck who is a federal witness in a very important case. Cauley does what she is asked and hopes this case works out for Logan and that no one gets hurts. But when the witness ends up in a dangerous shootout and his sister, Faith, disappears the next day, Cauley finds herself completely immersed in the case.
Maybe this is just the break Cauley needed! If she can get a really good story maybe she can branch out of obituary writing. At the same time, Cauley is very worried about Faith and wants to find her.
With the help of Marlowe the dog, a computer geek named Ethan and a cop named Cantu, Cauley desperately tries to put the puzzle together before it's too late and Faith's time runs out. Will Cauley be able to juggle her career, her developing romance with Logan, solve the mystery, and still look hot in a pair of murder red pumps, while chasing down bad guys with a pistol in her purse?
DEAD COPY marks Kit Frazier's second book in her outstanding series starring the sexy and witty Cauley MacKinnon. The story is fast paced and exciting all the way through. It had just the right amount of mystery with a little chick lit flavor mixed in to satisfy readers. I adore books with a female protagonist solving a case.
Cauley is a smart girl and her personality shines through the pages of the book. I would love to read more about the mysterious Tom Logan and have more of a romance developed between him and Cauley. DEAD COPY is a fun and thrilling book that will give you thrills and make you smile at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed DEAD COPY and I think you will too.
Twenty-something Cauley MacKinnon is dying to escape the
obituary beat and become a real reporter for the Austin
Sentinel. Her best chance at a front-page scoop disappeared
when she got too close to a case and almost got killed.
Cauley also managed to fall for the smoking-hot FBI agent
assigned to protect her.
When Special Agent Tom Logan shows up asking for a fake
obituary to make a key trial witness disappear, Cauley
jumps at the chance to help. After all, she's still
watching his dog, Marlowe, although maybe its the other way
around.
Caught in the crossfire on the courthouse steps, Cauley
sees the murder of the man whose death she already helped
fake. Now someone is making it clear that they don't want
Cauley getting any closer to the case - unless she wants to
wind up on the obituary page herself.
