Falling in love, getting married, and giving birth to a
bundle of joy. Isn't that what every girl dreams of? For
Jenny Harris, that is the perfect plan...or so she thought.
Why then is she pregnant and wondering if her fiancé is
really going to make it to the altar? Oops? Is there a
plan B or is Jenny just going to wake up one day and find
out that there truly is not a happily ever after?
It doesn't help that her potential life partner,
Dean, has a bunch of faults, including the fear to commit
and a horrible smoking habit that he just refuses to
break. As her due date quickly approaches, Dean quietly
exits and leaves the adorable Jenny all alone to face her
fears of motherhood. With a newborn and no job, Jenny
scrapes together her dignity as she forges ahead in her
new life filled with adventure and mayhem at every turn.
Luckily, her divorced parents come to her aid and what
enfolds is a delightful look at the joys of motherhood
told from a single mom's perspective.
Just when Jenny thinks she's got the hang of
things and is willing to put the past behind her, Dean
waltzes back into her life and stirs up enough trouble to
send her into a tizzy. How can she deny her firstborn the
privilege of knowing her father when he supposedly wants
to be a part of her life? Will Jenny be able to forgive
the man who trampled her heart and left her when she
needed him most? Can she really trust a man who chose to
be with his band rather than the woman he pledged to love?
THE BRIGHT SIDE OF DISASTER is a delightful, light
story that depicts what it's really like for a single mom
learning the ins and outs of motherhood without the help
of a spouse. Laugh out loud funny, Center conjures up the
right balance of humor and reality to entertain the reader
while perhaps teaching a well learned lesson of what's
most important in life...... finding oneself without losing
oneself in the process
Jenny Harris always expected that she’d fall in love, get
married, and have a baby–in that order. Now, very pregnant
and not quite married, she actually doesn’t mind that she
and her live-in fiancé, Dean, accidentally started their
family a little earlier than planned; she’s happy to have
so much to look forward to. But Dean–whom Jenny loves
enough to overlook his bad facial hair, his smoking habit,
and his total commitment to a cheesy cover band–is acting
distant, and not in a pre-wedding-jitters kind of way. The
night he runs out for cigarettes and just doesn’t come
back, he demotes himself from future husband to sperm
donor.
And the very next day, Jenny goes into
labor.
In the months that follow, Jenny plunges
into a life she never anticipated: single motherhood. At
least with the sleep deprivation, sore boobs, and fits of
crying (both hers and the baby’s), there’s not much time
to dwell on her broken heart. And things start looking up.
She learns how to do everything one-handed, makes friends
in a mommy group, and even manages to give dating tips to
her sweet, clueless father–who’s trying to court her sassy
mother again, fifteen years after their divorce. She also
gets to know a handsome, helpful neighbor–with a knack for
soothing babies–who invites her out dancing. But Dean is
never far from Jenny’s thoughts or, it turns out, her
doorstep, and in the end Jenny must choose between the old
life she thought she wanted and the new life she’s been
lucky to find.
