Eleven years ago, Clay Wainwright was the prosecuting attorney when Bailey O'Neil, known as the Street Angel in the roughest parts of New York City, was a defendant. Since that time, even though they are still working for the same cause of keeping teens away from drugs and gangs, Clay has been the enemy.
Clay is now a U.S. Senator, and he and Bailey are still butting heads over the same issue, they just have totally different approaches to the solution. When the governor assigns them both to a new gang violence task force to decide appropriation of funds and to what programs, their intense discussions and heated emotions soon lead to something neither of them anticipated -- a fiery sexual passion. Talk about a volatile mix set to explode! Clay and Bailey are both shocked at the outcome, but realize they now have to handle it the best way possible.
However, Clay and Bailey have a lot of baggage to deal with from their pasts, as well as the present. And it's a very difficult path they have to traverse to reach a satisfactory resolution for everyone involved, especially when trust is betrayed and forgiveness is hard to find.
Shay's writing trademark is taking seemingly impossible relationships with almost insurmountable obstacles and developing them into classic tales of true love, which is exactly what she does here. That's not to say the characters won't have more problems to deal with, but they've learned the fine arts of giving and receiving and forgiving, which are the hardest, yet most rewarding, lessons to learn in any relationship. SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN is another highly complex, compelling and thought-provoking novel written by one of the best.
