Romance Suspense

Elizabeth Harper went missing and most people are pretty sure she just disappeared while hiking. But they can't find a body and pretty soon, the police are ready to give up because there's no evidence a crime has been committed. All except for Detective Jack McQuinn, who knows something that no one else does. He'd been investigating a case about Internet chat rooms and started talking with a woman who called herself Lulu. While looking into the Harper case, McQuinn finds out that Elizabeth was Lulu.

And Lulu had been an abused wife. McQuinn had been counseling her to leave her husband, to get help before it was too late. Now he doesn't know if the husband may have killed her, or if Elizabeth herself planned her disappearance to get away. He's determined to find out because he's worried that the advice he was giving Elizabeth online may have pushed her toward her death.

Meanwhile, evidence is turning up about Dr. Harper, Elizabeth's husband. He's wanted on an out-of-state warrant for questioning in the death of a previous wife. In a dramatically fiery crash, the good doctor disappears and McQuinn must have answers. If Elizabeth did pull a disappearing act, he's concerned Dr. Harper is on her trail, and she really will end up dead!

Piece after piece of the puzzles in this book are revealed, leaving the reader sitting on the edge of the seat. Just when you think it's all over, it's not, reminiscent of the horror films where the bad guy just won't die. While this book is a bit predictable, it's also tension-filled and yeah, there's a good romance. A good read.

SUMMARY

Elizabeth Harper vanished while hiking alone in Hawaii’s remote Kahana Valley State Park. There’s no evidence to suggest what happened…until Detective Jack McQuinn discovers she is the same woman he counseled online, a beauty whose coolly detached surgeon husband already spoke of her in the past tense. Did Dr. Richard Harper murder his wife, then set up her disappearance? Or did Elizabeth fake her own death to escape him? Then Dr. Harper’s body is allegedly ID’d at the site of a fatal car crash, the case is closed on his wife’s disappearance, and Jack McQuinn turns in his badge. He’s headed for New Mexico, a search for two people who disappeared into thin air, a woman he’ll never forget, and a deadly...DOUBLE PLAY
