Women's Fiction Contemporary | Mystery Woman Sleuth | Suspense

In this third installment in Jennifer Colt's popular series, the McAfee twins are getting into trouble again! Kerry and Terry McAfee are red headed, twin, private investigators, who always seem to get themselves into dangerous situations while solving a case. When Darby Applewhite aka Ephemera, Queen of the Undead, hires the twins to guard her hearse and handle the crowds at The Venice Goth Parade, the girls have no idea what they are really getting themselves into. When the twins go to release Darby out of her coffin, they discover her dead inside of it. Something has gone horribly wrong and now the twins have a murder to solve! While investigating the murder of Darby, the McAfee twins realize someone doesn't want this murder solved. Someone is out to get them and they have no idea who and why. Darby was involved with a gothic crowd of people who drank blood and considered themselves vampires. Did one of her friends kill her? After meeting with Darby's roommates, the suspect list starts to grow. Why would someone want to kill Darby? Are her roommates in danger too? Who is the murderer? Is it one of the roommates, Darby's parents, Darby's sister, or one of the vampires from the club? Without knowing who they can trust, the McAfee girls will have a lot of trouble trying to solve this case! During all of this, Kerry tries to keep her love life in one piece. Detective John Boatwright is looking to get serious with Kerry but her loyalty to her sister Terry is getting in the way of her relationship. Will Kerry give up a good man to keep her sister happy? With the help of a group of men called The Bruces, two puppies, some nifty high tech gadgets, and a pink Harley, the twins embark on a fabulous adventure into the world of a group of gothic vampires. Will they come out alive and unbitten, or will their adventure forever change them into different people? THE VAMPIRE OF VENICE BEACH is a fun, upbeat, hilarious, mystery. The characters are eccentric and unique all in their own way. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading the other two books in this series. I highly recommend THE VAMPIRE OF VENICE BEACH for a fun read.

SUMMARY

Crime-fighting sisters Kerry and Terry McAfee are used to nabbing killers while wearing high heels. But when their pal Darby Applewhite—a.k.a. Ephemera, Queen of the Undead—hires them to work crowd control at the annual Venice Goth Parade, they find themselves sporting black jumpsuits and white makeup instead. Ephemera plans to promote the opening of the highly anticipated Dark Arts Galley by popping out of a coffin just as the guests are brought inside. But when the coffin lid rises, she pitches forward onto the street--and Kerry and Terry are shocked to discover that the Queen of the Undead is in fact dead after all! Suddenly the parade of harmless misfits is transformed into a stream of potential suspects, and it’s up to the twins to find their friend’s killer. Soon they’re plunged into a nefarious world that includes dentists specializing in prosthetic fangs and a goth cult led by a thug with a forked tongue. Will threats scrawled on their Harley in blood and amorous advances from sexy Detective John Boatwright derail the twins from getting their ghoul? Not bloody likely.
