Quickly assessing the situation, Marc Doucette saves the day for the attractive Abby Miller, on her maiden ferry voyage across the mighty St. Lawrence, on her way to the little village of Tadoussac, Quebec with her little dog, Figgy Piggy. For her part, Abby can't help but notice how handsome her rescuer is as they form an easy camaraderie with each other. But that quickly changes when Marc finds out that she is a research scientists on her way to study beluga whales and the sounds they make. Marc is not thrilled when he finds out his widowed mother, Francoise Doucette, has let Abby an apartment and she has already made friends with his lively eight-year daughter, Sylvie. He had had enough of scientists and their big city theories that he believed were responsible for causing a major economic crisis for the beleaguered fishing industry and was to blame for his father's heart attack. But times are tough and with little prospects for full-time employment, Marc offers to pilot his boat for Abby when the research boat for the local marine interpretative center was not available. For her part, Abby is now a little leery of Marc, especially Dr. Pete Bouchard, the Head of the marine center, had filled her in on things that Marc had done in his past. But, will the magic of the village, the call of the whales, and the matchmaking skills of Gram, Marc's mother, be enough to help bring Abby and her son together and help him heal his heart from the tragic death of his wife a few years earlier? With her excellent research, compassionate heart and psychological insights, first time author Joanne Michael has crafted a strong and heartwarming story of learning to love and trust again. You will laugh as Abby discovers the joys of poutine, Quebec's favourite food, and delight in Sylvie's antics as she teaches Figgy some new tricks and he helps her to learn some, too. This is a terrific read from a new author with a strong storyline that highlights how understanding can melt cold barriers between people. So, enjoy a whale of a ride into this beautiful part of Canada -- a voyage not to be missed!
