Finley Anderson Tanner loves a good discount on designer clothes that are slightly damaged. She would much rather be off shopping for a bargain then working at the law firm of Dane, Lieberman and Zarnowski in the Estates and Trusts Department. But unfortunately Finley needs to work to support her shopping addiction so she works as a paralegal assistant for the law firm. Usually Finley deals with wills and estates, but her most recent client has a whole other profession planned for her.
Stacy Evans, recently widowed, is supposed to have her late husband's will read by Finley. Instead she shocks Finley by declaring that her husband didn't die from an accidental death, but was murdered! Finley thinks this woman is out of her mind with grief and doesn't know what she's saying. She placates the woman and says she will look into the matter. Finley isn't a detective and if the police say it wasn't murder, then it wasn't, right?
With the help of a gorgeous private investigator named Liam McGarrity, Finley looks into the death of Stacy Evans' husband Marcus. After some investigating she discovers that Marcus served on a jury for a medical malpractice suit against a Dr. Kent Hall. Mysteriously, two other jury members have also passed away in accidental deaths recently. Is Dr. Kent Hall murdering the jury members that served in his trial or is there something more sinister going on?
While investigating the death of Marcus Evans, Finley realizes that her boyfriend is never around and starts to turn her affections to Liam. Liam and Finley develop a growing attraction towards each other while working their case. Will Finley be able to concentrate on the case, keep her job as a paralegal, and squeeze some romance into her life?
KNOCK OFF is a humorous mystery that will keep readers entertained. Finley's personality and antics slightly reminded me of Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich's series. The book concludes with an ending that hints towards a follow up book. Hopefully this will become a series because Finley is a wonderful character that is extremely loveable.
I would like to read more about her addiction to shopping, fantasies of deep fried chocolate, and hopefully a whole lot more Liam in the next book! KNOCK OFF is a great book to curl up with on the beach this summer.
