When a group of six unlikely members of the community are
chosen to decide the fate of the Old Altman property more
than a building is at stake. Offers from Oil Company's to
tear down the house would be prosperous for the small town.
The current Mayor is up for re-election and would profit
from the decision to tear the house down.
From the very first meeting the group is threatened; but by
whom or what? They form a bond. After a few more
incidents, some of them causing near death, the group
decides to investigate on their own. Friendship and bonds
are found in the most unlikely, opposite places.
Rosa Lee left a message, a secret to unravel. Sidney
Dickerson, the leader of the committee and college
professor, has only lived in Clifton Creek for a short time.
Sidney is drawn to the town by a note written on the back
of her Grandmother's recipe card. She doesn't realize it's
connected to the Altman home. With the help of her
committee Sidney discovers, finally, where she belongs.
THE SECRETS OF ROSA LEE is a very enjoyable read. It has a
slow deliberate character development. Usually I don't like
multiple character stories, but Jodi Thomas has a knack for
making the characters and story flow in a way that the
reader can follow and enjoy. I love the way she develops
the relationships with the committee and the love interests.
If you like mysteries mixed with budding romance you'll
like this novel. A very happy conclusion is the reward.
Everyone assumes Rosa Lee Altman lived a life without
passion. But buried secrets are meant to be revealed. And no
one is prepared for what they discover beneath Rosa Lee's
overgrown roses--or how her legacy will change their lives
with love.
The once beautiful Altman home sits empty, its gardens
overgrown, its windows boarded up--an old lady, now silent,
surrounded by what passess for progress in Clifton Creek,
Texas. But if some of the townsfolk have their way, this
lovely reminder of times past will be sold off to the
highest bidder.
When a group of community members with little in common is
chosen to decide the fate of "the old Altman place," they
soon learn that this home is more than bricks and mortar.
It's also a place that harbors a love so strong, it still
has the power to change the entire town.
