In the latest installment of her highly successful Nerds series, Vicki Lewis Thompson brings us the story of an oversexed couples therapist and the workaholic college student who interns in her office. Amanda Rykowsky is a part-time intern, sometimes bartender, and full-time student determined to graduate from college with honors and go on to Harvard for graduate school before becoming a wildly successful adolescent psychology. Nothing will deter her from her path, even William Sloan, the slightly-nerdy, very sexy stockbroker who works in the same building as her and who Amanda believes is the secret admirer who is sending her mysterious valentines.
But as the notes become more disturbing, and the writer becomes more unbalanced, it becomes clear to Amanda that Will couldn't be capable of sending her the offending missives. When he sees that she's actually becoming frightened by her would-be admirer, Will decides to step in and play the role of boyfriend in the hopes of scaring the culprit away. What he and Amanda both don't realize is that when he moves into her home with the hopes of protecting her, no one is going to able to protect them from the chemistry between them...
MY NERDY VALENTINE is an entertaining, intriguing, laugh-out-loud funny romantic comedy with a hint of mystery to keep you guessing. Vicki Lewis Thompson does a great job of displaying that it's okay to be slightly nerdy because you can do so without sacrificing being sexy. The character of Will is the best of both worlds, an intelligent stockbroker who knows how to treat a lady and a fierce protector who will stand up for her when necessary. Similarly, Amanda reminds us that it's okay to be focused on your goals so long as you don't let them start to inhibit you from enjoying your life. With a supporting cast including Amanda's nosy, geriatric neighbors Mavis and Chester, her temptress sex therapist boss, and the nerdy customers from her night job at a bar called Geekland, MY NERDY VALENTINE delivers surprisingly amusing chick lit with an ending that you won't see coming.
