Divorce and dating have never been so delicious! In THE
NICK OF TIME, San Culberson gives a fast-paced, feisty,
and fun look at relationship endings and beginnings.
Fiona Daniels, an up and coming attorney, celebrates her
divorce by throwing a party. What better way to start her
new life than with great food and good company? All her
friends, even her sister with whom she doesn't really get
along, are in attendance. No men invited. Her best
friend, Nicole, even made sure the bartender was female.
From here on, Fiona vows to keep her relationships
simple. Like someone who tries smoking once and decides
it's not for her because she doesn't like the taste,
Fiona, or Fee, as her close friends and family call her,
has had her fill of marriage. Once was enough for her.
Fiona doesn't count on meeting Nick Nathaniel, also
divorced and a local chef. So what if she's a little
tipsy and falls off a table into his arms at her divorce
party. (He's only there because he's part of the cleanup
crew.) Fee decides to make up for many months celibacy by
having a one-night stand. After all, it's only about the
sex. So how come she can't—or won't—let him go? And
since she can't—or won't—will she trust herself enough to
trust Nick with her heart?
For a debut novel, I found Ms. Culberson's sassy style to
be sharp, witty, and very impressive. Her dialogue is
down to earth and her characters more than realistic. At
times, I felt as though I were chatting with a
girlfriend. THE NICK OF TIME is a romantic and funny look
at divorce, second chances, and kooky family dynamics.
I'll be on the lookout for more from Ms. Culberson.
