For five years, since she turned 18, Lyra Collins has been on the run from The People, a cult her mother took her into when she was young. One day a man shows up on her doorstep asking questions she doesn't want to answer. But it's too late. The cult is right behind him. He is Dare Lancaster, former cop turned PI, who was hired to find Lyra. Once he sees he's been followed, he grabs Lyra and the two take off together; she, knowing she'll never be free of the cult leader who's declared she's been "chosen" to bear his child, the "messiah," and Dare, determined to put a stop to the running and the cult altogether so they can have the future together he thinks is waiting for them. CHOSEN PREY, the third book by Ms. McCray, was great fun to read. A rip-roaring adventure from the beginning, it kept me turning the pages, unable to put it down. Lyra and Dare are great characters and the plot is all-too believable in today's world. Alpha, without being too macho to be believed, Dare is a hero any girl would like to go on the run with. And I hope Ms. McCray is planning to continue the saga in one form or another with Dare's partner, Nick. He's a man who already has me wanting to hear his story -- I'm sure you will be too. Don't miss CHOSEN PREY or either of Ms. McCray's other novels, SEDUCED BY MAGIC and FORBIDDEN MAGIC. Any and all of them are unputdownable treats. A very good read.

SUMMARY

Peril Lyra Collins has made a life for herself in a sleepy artists’ community in Arizona. Having escaped from a cult five years ago, she keeps a low profile, making a living as an artist. But when a mysterious man with a dark, dangerous look appears on her doorstep, she knows it’s time to run again. Passion Former cop Dare Lancaster didn’t mean to lead a bunch of fanatical cult members straight to Lyra’s door. But now that he’s gotten her into this mess, he’s determined to get her out. The frantic heat their bodies generate whenever they’re together makes him want to save her… Prophecy Neal Barker’s grandfather was the first Prophet Jericho, and Neal now rules the Temple of Light commune unchecked. According to his visions, he and Lyra are destined to produce the new Messiah, so he will stop at nothing to make her his own. But soon Dare will discover just how far he’ll go to protect Lyra—and never let her go.
