Romance Suspense | Mystery Woman Sleuth

All Chrissy McMullen, psychologist, wanted was a date with hunky Lieutenant Jack Rivera. But life has a way of getting in the way of what you want sometimes. Rivera receives a phone call right before he's about to leave on their date. Something is wrong and he needs to cancel their date. After following Rivera to his father's house, she discovers someone has been murdered and Rivera is the main suspect! Chrissy becomes involved in the investigation. What else is a woman to do; she can't be dating a man accused of murder!

Chrissy snoops around investigating what really happened that night at Rivera's father's house. After Chrissy meets Rivera's parents and several other people, the suspect list grows. Rivera is being accused of murdering his father's fiancé and he's starting to look very guilty.

Why was Rivera at the scene of the crime? Is Rivera covering up for his father or mother? Why would someone want to kill such a beautiful young woman? Is there something more sinister going on? Was her death accidental or deviously planned? After finding out Rivera's history with the woman, Chrissy wonders if he can truly be trusted.

As Chrissy investigates she puts herself in danger and her own life at risk. Without knowing who the real killer is, she won't see the attack coming. Will Rivera be able to save Chrissy if something happens to her and she finds herself face to face with the killer or will the killer claim her as his next victim? With a nagging mother, crazy clients, a boyfriend accused of murder, an actress best friend who might be moving out of town, and a mystery to solve, how will Chrissy keep it together?

This was my first book by Lois Greiman and I look forward to reading the first two books in the series. The mystery was exciting and with so many characters the reader has no idea who the real killer is. Chrissy's character is very likeable and her antics are hilarious with all the mischief she gets herself into.

The reader will want Chrissy and Rivera to finally get together, but then this wouldn't be a series if it was so simple! Readers must stay tuned for the next book and hope for more romance between them. Greiman writes in a fun breezy way that makes the book enjoyable and a relaxing read. The book had the perfect blend of comedy, romance, and mystery in it. UNSCREWED is a fun mystery that will keep you interested and rooting for the characters until the last page is turned. I look forward to Lois Greiman's next book to find out what happens between Chrissy and Rivera.

SUMMARY

L.A. homicide detective Jack Rivera has a killer body, a wicked smile, and a velvet touch. Just ask Christina McMullen. The cocktail-waitress-turned-psychologist has handled obsessed patients, love-struck drunks, and her own guilt-tripping mother with aplomb. But when it comes to the lieutenant, Chrissy has an old-fashioned case of irresistible attraction—until things turn fatal when Rivera is accused of murder! Not only was Rivera found unconscious next to a dead woman, but the victim was his beautiful ex-girlfriend—who left Rivera for his wealthy dad. Chrissy detects a few father-and-son issues—along with plenty of evidence that her would-be boyfriend is guilty. But when she starts looking into the dead woman’s past, a rich senator’s connections, and Rivera’s relationship with his mother, will she discover there’s hope for her and Rivera after all? Or will her curiosity have deadly consequences?
