Teddy Baylor, a new and upcoming interior designer, takes her mother to lunch at her new client's restaurant, The Steak Out, a place with questionable cuisine and extremely desperate for a new decor. The outing is uneventful until Teddy's mother decides to use the men's restroom instead of the women's and discovers more than a nasty urinal -- a dead man in a stall.
When Detective Drew Scoones arrives on the scene, he is fearful that Teddy is involved in another homicide. As Drew digs deeper into the murder, he uncovers Teddy's strange connection to the man in the stall, which gives her a motive for murder. Together, Drew and Teddy search for the truth and could possibly find a connection of their own.
Stevi Mittman's story is witty and humorous. I enjoyed all of the characters and the anticipation of the possible love connection between Drew and Teddy. I look forward to reading Mittman's next addition to this fabulous series, which already includes WHO MAKES UP THESE RULES, ANYWAY? (2/06) and WHAT GOES WITH BLOOD RED, ANYWAY? (8/06).
Talk about a recipe for disaster!
Take one Long Island housewife, add three kids, an ex-
husband from hell,
and a botoxed mother who can still wound at thirty feet
with just a look.
Stirring constantly, thrust a fledgling business into the
mix.
Add one murder, a couple of suspects, a lot of food and
one dreamy detective. Bring to a slow simmer over low heat
and then gently fold in one disastrous bat mitzvah.
Turn up the flame slightly and add in a mafia don who is a
little too interested in our crazed housewife. Sprinkle
generously with secret ingredients.
Throw in a touch of danger and cook to perfection. Serve
to anyone needing a good laugh.
It's not bad enough that her business is always on the
edge, now Teddi Bayer's life is spinning out of control.
Not only is she involved in another murder, but it seems
that an old mafia don is suddenly a bit too interested in
the Bayer family in general and Teddi's mom in particular.
And then there's daughter Dana's bar mitzvah, which
apparently is going to be held in the parking lot to the
Long Island Railroad. . .
