As an operative of the Dirk & Steele agency, Blue has
witnessed humanity at its very worst. The atrocities humans
visit on each other, and on every other living thing on the
planet, never cease to amaze him. But tonight, in
Indonesia, Blue has a chance to take on one of the
biggest "bads" of all and bring him to his knees.
Blue has tracked the head of an organ selling ring to the
dark streets of Jakarta and tonight intends to make the
bastard pay for all the hurt he's so cavalierly spread
across the globe, and all for the sake of a buck. Blue
starts out the night with what he thinks is a pretty good
plan, but he ends up at the wrong end of a bomb and is
severely injured in the blast. In a coma, Blue is rescued
by his friends at the agency and taken away to recover.
When he regains consciousness, Blue is eager to return to
work, but fate intervenes and he's forced to head home.
Now, instead of tracking down a killer, Blue is sent to
find his missing brother, Daniel, and bring him back to
their father. Daniel's trail leads straight to Las Vegas,
where Blue not only finds Daniel, who has no intention of
returning to hearth and home, but the lovely and enigmatic
Iris McGillis. Iris is part of a popular circus act in
Vegas, working as an animal tamer. A shape-shifter herself,
Iris, like the majority of the "mutants" hiding in plain
sight among the rest of humanity, she likes to keep a low
profile. Although she's drawn to Blue, she's also a bit
suspicious. When a stranger begins sending Iris threatening
letters, Blue promises to protect her. But it soon becomes
obvious that her stalker is much more dangerous than any
ordinary man should be. Blue's life is about to come full
circle, and he isn't nearly ready enough for what is ahead.
This is one of the best, if not "the" best paranormal
romance series around. Marjorie Liu has quickly
risen to the top of the best-seller lists and deservedly
so. Everything is right -- storylines, characters,
continuity. There is simply not a better read.
Dirk & Steele have a creed: Protect the innocent in
secrecy. No member of the Agency is “normal.” “Blue”
Perrineau is no different. And now, when it is clear that
darker shadows exist in the world—people who followed no
rule under heaven—every secret is a liability. Blue wtll
soon see.
They come from all over the world to observe Iris’s lithe,
catlike body and her affinity for wild creatures. All eyes
are upon her, seeking, judging…coveting. But one gaze is
that of a savior, a man of electricity and mystery—a
mystery as deep and convoluted as her own. And together,
they might yet see the dawn.
