From idyllic small-town Georgia to the mean streets of
Dublin, Karen Marie Moning takes her readers for a
walk on the wild side in DARKFEVER, a new spin-off series
to her bestselling Highlander series.
MacKayla Lane, Mac, is just a Southern girl at heart, happy
as a clam, safe and snug in rural Ashford, Georgia. Mac's
world is shattered when she receives a phone call from
Ireland and learns her sister, Alina, was found brutally
murdered in a Dublin alley. When Mac feels the cops close
her sister's case much too quickly, she hops a plane for
Dublin hoping to convince the lead detective to continue
the search for Alina's killer.
Mac has no luck with the Dublin police and starts talking
to her sister's friends on her own. Puzzled at the portrait
of an Alina who's a virtual stranger to her, Mac digs
deeper. Her eyes are soon opened to the horrors of the
Dublin otherworld -- the Fae who walk among us as humans,
yet are anything but; the Seelie and Unseelie, with all
their glittering fairy glamour, feeding off unwitting human
hosts, leaving behind empty shells and sometimes not even
that. Mac turns out to be immune to their fairy tricks and
is able to spot the Fae in their true form. She's a Sidhe
seer, as was her sister before her.
Reeling with the power of her newfound "gift," Mac
continues her sister's search for one of the missing Dark
Hallows, a powerful book known as the Sinsar Dubh. As it
turns out, Mac isn't the only one after the book. A master
vampire, who already holds the key to the dark book's
translation, tries to kill her. The fanatical crime lord of
the city, who possesses another of the hallows, comes after
her with guns ablazin'.
Enter Jericho Barrons, a reclusive bookstore owner who
seems to be human. Mac detects none of the Fae in him, but
Jericho is somehow more than human. Jericho is after the
tome for reasons he doesn't care to share with Mac.
Initially, he threatens her and orders her out of the city,
but when she proves useful to him, he changes his tune, and
they team up to hunt for the book together. Mac has to rely
on a man she knows is dangerous and isn't sure she trusts.
But actions speak louder than words and Barrons soon proves
to be worth his weight in dragon gold as the two risk life
and limb to get to the Sinsar Dubh before the forces of
darkness close in on the human race forever.
Always entertaining, Moning never disappoints her fans.
DARKFEVER is no exception. With this first book in a new
series, Moning sets up characters and their world with a
sound hand. Fans will be rabid by the time the second book
in the series, BLOODFEVER, is released.
When her sister is murdered, a cryptic phone message
causes
MacKayla Lane to go to Ireland looking for answers. Once
there, she’s drawn into a shadowy realm where the line
between good and evil is indistinct. While digging deeper
into the murder, Mac’s own life is in danger when she
discovers she has the power to see beyond the world of
man
and into the dangerous realm of Fae. And as the fabric
between these worlds starts to tear, Mac must find the
all-
powerful Dark Book, for whoever possesses it will have
total control of both worlds. Then add to the pursuit a
ruthless Fae male who makes sex an addiction for human
women, and Mac has her work cut out for her.
