Winter Massey is tired of playing cops and robbers. He wants to settle down with his new wife, Sean, and try to bury the ghosts of the people he's killed in the line of duty as a U.S. Marshal. But then his friends, Hank and Millie, are involved in a hit-and-run accident in New Orleans. On top of that, Winter's son's best friend, Faith Ann, goes missing after her mother is killed.
The tragedies are connected to a case Faith Ann's mother was defending, trying to get a man, Horace Pond, off of death row. As Winter starts delving into the case, all the while searching for Faith Ann who's on the run for her life, he's mired in a nasty situation. Murder-for-hire by cold-blooded killers adds up to life-threatening danger -- for Winter and his friends.
Sit down with this novel and don't plan on getting up again. Miller knows how to yank the plot strings and develop characters that keep you focused on this book and little else. Faith Ann is just a stupendous character, and her keen mind and observations elevate the tension. I liked Winter Massey in the first book (INSIDE OUT, out May 31) and can't wait for the next book in the series, SIDE BY SIDE (coming in September), to see more of him. This new crime series is a must-read for those who like action and top-notch tension.
