Inspirational Historical

Mercedes Monroe, Mercy to her family and friends, is a strong woman with many talents. She has to be to survive the harsh life of the Kansas prairie. Mercy finds joy in everyday living, in sharing the work on her husband's horse farm and providing meals and a brief respite to stagecoach travelers on their way West. She also opens her arms and her heart to children in need, ultimately creating the family she and her husband have so earnestly prayed for -- a patchwork family. Each child has been subjected to life's injustices, yet in good times and in bad, it's love and Christian beliefs that bring them all through the tragedies and allow them to celebrate fully the triumphs that await them. Set in 1866 Kansas, this is the first in Ms. Hubbard's inspirational romance Angels of Mercy series. What a start. Mercy, the central figure, is strong and faith-centered, and she guides the story as each new character is introduced. Tragedy is balanced with triumph to create a very entertaining as well as inspirational read. A great family story to share, it will appeal to nearly every age and anyone who enjoys historical literature. If you take a quick look at Ms. Hubbard's website, she'll give you a peek at the plots and plans for the rest of the series. A recommended read.

SUMMARY

A good wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels…Meet Mercy Malloy. Whether she’s cooking up the best grub to be had all along the Holladay stagecoach line, working her husband’s horse farm or helping her neighbors, God’s love fills her life. She opens her hand to the poor, and reaches out her hands to the needy…So when two orphaned children appear on her doorstep, she hesitates only a moment before opening her heart and her home to them. Perhaps this is the Lord’s way of sending her and Judd the babies they’ve prayed for. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her… Out on the Kansas plains the years bring hardship and heartache—Indian attacks, a runaway daughter, an abandoned baby in a basket—but also precious new life and the unlooked for joy of a surprise love. Through it all, Mercy’s faith holds her family together, creating a patchwork of strength and beauty.
