Non-Fiction Biography
This is the first major biography of the Queen and the Duke
of Edinburgh—both royal, both great-great-great
grandchildren of Queen Victoria, but in temperament and
upbringing very different people. Her childhood was loving
and secure, his turbulent: the Duke's grandfather was
assassinated, his father arrested, his family exiled, his
parents separated by the time he was ten. For almost sixty
years theirs have been among the most famous faces in the
world—yet the personalities behind the image remain elusive,
and the nature of their marriage is an enigma. Gyles Brandreth has met all the principal players in the
story. He quotes no anonymous sources; he has known the Duke
of Edinburgh for twenty-five years and has interviewed him.
This is a unique and revealing portrait of a remarkable
partnership.

Re: Philip And Elizabeth
Amazing. I did not know they were both great x3 grandchildren of Queen Victoria. How closely related are they then? And I have always wondered about him. He is always there, well almost, but in the background. This will be a must read for me. I am fascinated by the Royal Family. (Vicki Hancock 12:33pm June 5, 2012)
I have always followed the Royal Family and have read everything I can get my hands on about them. Queen Elizabeth is an amazing and strong woman who has had to make some very tough decisions. Prince Philip is very outspoken and while I'm sure he has been a trial to his wife at times, he does have that wonderfully dry, English humor. I am so looking forward to reading this new book! Thank you so much for sharing. (Connie Fischer 10:13am June 5, 2012)
The Royal family has always fasinated me. But speaking of how close relation they are to each other is, I think they are fourth cousins.I love reading about them, and look forward to reading this book as well... (Wanda Maynard 5:42pm June 5, 2012)
This sounds like a fascinating book. Aren't most of the European Royals related because of Queen Victoria's many progeny marrying into the various families?? :) I have always loved British Royal stuff...well, probably any Royal stuff. I really liked watching all the Jubilee events. Hope Prince Phillip gets out of the hospital in time for his birthday. (Penny Mettert 2:14am June 6, 2012)
