Mystery

Charlie Moon is feeling the pinch. Hard times are sweeping across southern Colorado, and Moon’s ranching operation is looking like it’s going to have to sell off a big ol’ hunk of its herd at rock bottom prices just to keep afloat.

Samuel Reed, a wealthy investor known for a having a special intuition when it comes to picking stocks, has never had that problem. In fact, he claims to be able to remember the future, which gives him a real leg up on Wall Street. When Reed makes Moon’s best friend Granite City Chief of Police Scott Parish a wager with ten to one odds that Parish can’t keep him alive for a month, Moon wants in on the action.

Reed can’t (or won’t?) say anything about the who’s, how’s, where’s, and why’s with any real precision, but he does give Parish the date and time. And that’s more than enough information for Moon who thinks he’s on his way to saving the ranch with a bet. But his best laid plans go awry when instead of one homicide, the 7-foot Ute rancher and investigator ends up with two on his hands.
