In a 50’s diner called The Two Sisters' Café in northern
Kentucky, sisters Alma and Vannie May run a unique
business. If your luck has run out and you're looking for
a second chance on life you might find yourself at one of
the sisters' back booths. Or you might witness miracles,
your own or those of others, without asking and find
yourself changed if only just a little.
But even the sisters find their hands full
when a desperate man barges in on them during the thickest
snowstorm in local history and sets fate to rolling like
never before. When the storm clears the sisters realize
they have disrupted the lives of the local bootlegger's
family and seek to make amends by hiring his eldest
daughter to work at the café. The girl's apprenticeship
turns out to be more than any of them had bargained for as
the fledgling young magician first assists the sisters as
they perform works of beneficent, transformational magic
within the Willow Creek community, then begins to develop
her own talents in that art.
Meanwhile her father's rage escalates until it
threatens not only her life but the lives of her mother
and siblings as well. Instead of retreating, however, the
sisters and their foul-speaking, raggedy-feathered old
parrot lead Sarah into the very heart of magic where they
show her that the valiant path, no matter how daunting, is
the only one that can ever lead to safety and that a
magician's truest test lies in assuming responsibility for
her own life.
