Thriller

This action-packed thriller moves at a breakneck pace over a two-week period in real locations in London and New York, against a background of political intrigue and an escalation of policy differences between Washington and Westminster, concerning the buildup of terrorist activity in the Middle East, Asia, and Chechnya.

As Quentin Dart, music critic for The London Times, and his fiancée, Alexandra Matviyko, attend a performance of Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky's opera, at London's Royal Opera House, the conductor, Petya Gubin, is murdered in his dressing room.

The murder is investigated by the Scotland Yard and the FBI as suspicions grow regarding Gubin's fringe activities in the U.S. Conspiracies surrounding the movement of large amounts of cash are unearthed, linked to the buildup of international terrorist cells and the procurement of weapons of mass destruction.

Quentin gradually begins to understand more of the murky and puzzling chain of circumstances into which he has become involved.
