Non-Fiction Memoir
"The release of the Jordan XX in 2005 created an opportunity for me to look back. Three years removed from my playing career and 20 years into the Jordan brand, I have been able to reflect on the arc of my life β on and off the court. As I moved into the business world full time, I came to recognize that the structure of success is no different there than it is on the basketball court. Great companies have a lot in common with great teams. Great students have a lot in common with great people. Success at any level can be reverse engineered to reveal the same architecture. I have always known only one way to do anything: one step at a time. And I learned very early to follow my instincts. Everything I have done, and everything I will do, comes from those lessons. But my standards have always been mine alone. I never tried to be like someone else, or live up to the expectations of others. This book provides snapshots, vignettes and stories about my life and experiences. We all know our story from our perspective. I wanted to know what my story looked like to those closest to me, the people inside my circle. The media has spent a billion words and maybe as many images explaining what it looked like to them. But everyone sees things from a different angle. These are my experiences. In some cases, someone close to me relates a story, and I provide my view of that same event. In other cases, I talk about what happened, or how I approached a phase of my life, and they respond from their vantage. The only people included in this book are those very close to me."
