She's Dr. Isabel Favor, America's diva of self-help.
He's Ren Gage, Hollywood's favorite bad guy.
Sometimes you just know that God has a sense of humor.
She's lost her money to an unscrupulous accountant, her
fiancé to a frumpy older woman, and her reputation to
headlines denouncing her as a fraud. Lately it seems Dr.
Isabel, America's favorite self-help guru, can fix
everyone's life but her own. Even the shelter of a simple
stone farmhouse nestled in an olive grove can't provide
Isabel with the refuge she needs -- not when the
townspeople are scheming to drive her away, her plan to
restore her good name has come up empty ... and a movie
star villain with a face to die for refuses to leave her in
peace!
Viciously handsome and sublimely talented, Lorenzo Gage
makes his living killing people ... on the silver screen,
that is. Despite his success, he hates the feeling that
everything he's neglected in life is catching up with him.
Then he spots Isabel sipping a glass of wine in a sidewalk
café. A good guy wouldn't think of seducing such a tidy-
looking woman ... but Ren Gage never saw the fun in playing
the hero.
Sometimes all it takes is a special place ... a special
love ... a little breathing room ... for life to deliver
all its glorious promise.
I'm a little behind on my reading, and haven't had the pleasure of reading either book, but they are on my TBR list!! My list is quite long at this point, but after the death of my Father in April, teaching a knitting and crochet class once a week as a volunteer, and my duties at home as a Manager with my Husband where we live at our apartment complex, time has been hard to come by as of late. I can't wait to get to your latest book especially, because your synopsis sounds like something that will be right up my alley!! Congratulations on your latest book, which I know will fly right off the shelves!! (Peggy Roberson 10:20am July 30, 2014)
It has been a long time since I read this. Time to reread it! (Lee Tobar 9:25am July 31, 2014)
I loved the authenticity of this book. I felt as if I were there, wandering among the vines, sipping wine outside the cottage, flirting with Lorenzo, :) (Jacquie Biggar 11:19am July 31, 2014)
I just barely remember the book because it's been years. I loved the setting. The dialogue quoted above makes me think I need to reread this gem. I love witty repartee! It's so hard to write, so I envy SEP. (Tracey Harbaugh 3:02pm July 31, 2014)
Have not read it yet...lol...but the above excerpts are making me want to put it on my to be read soon list!!! (Ronda Garnett 3:04pm July 31, 2014)
Bought it and its sitting on my Kindle as the next TBR. Excited after reading input and comments. (Patricia Booth 3:11pm July 31, 2014)
Sounds interesting. I haven't read any of these. (Michelle Fidler 3:56pm July 31, 2014)
I love and have read all of SEP's books. I need to find time to do a reread of Breathing Room. Can't wait until Heroes is released. (Kelly McCullough 4:20pm July 31, 2014)
I have not read these books, but being a long time fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, I know I will not be disappointed. (Deborah Nagy 5:11pm July 31, 2014)
Girl, you had me at the isolated island. Looks like a riveting read. (Alyson Widen 5:40pm July 31, 2014)
Loretta, thanks for all the great comments. I'm a HUGE fan of your work, and I love knowing you're reading my books, too. BREATHING ROOM is a special book to me because I loved both the hero and heroine so much. Ren Gage just melts me! (Susan Elizabeth Phillips 7:33pm July 31, 2014)
I read this book awhile ago. I'm going to go find it and read it again. I know I have it somewhere. I have every book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. 😃 (Bev Oconnor 9:23pm July 31, 2014)
Really liked Breathing Room, but my true favorite was Natural Born Charmer. of course, sEP has never written any book that I did not like!! (Alice Winter 9:26pm July 31, 2014)
Isabel Favor exudes goodness. She is so wise. Although Ren isn't my favorite SEP hero, I admired the way he took on the challenges : with his ex-wife, with Isabel's goodness, with playing the Good Guy in the movie. I love the Chicago Stars series, but this book made me feel better about life in general. (Doreen Sanzone 11:56pm July 31, 2014)
This is my all time favorite. I love the imagery . I can close my eyes and see the tree outside with it's chandelier and candles. I can smell the figs and taste the porcini . (Roberta Kipper 10:27am August 1, 2014)
One of my fav books is Fancy Pants... just loved that book.. I have Breathing Room on my kindle.. (Kathleen O'Donnell 1:36pm August 2, 2014)
I LOVED this book- the setting and characters were great. SEP always creates characters you immediately fall for and root for a happy ending. This may have been the book I officially made SEP one of my favorite authors. (Sara Edmonds 1:43pm August 2, 2014)
Just thinking about writing Breathing Room makes me want to go back to Italy. Come to think about it, almost anything makes me want to go back to Italy! (Susan Elizabeth Phillips 11:00am August 3, 2014)
Everyone seems to have their own favorite. I like several of SEP's books. (Kim C 3:21pm August 11, 2014)
I think this is the only Susan Elizabeth Phillips book with a foreign setting. (Kim C 3:23pm August 11, 2014)
This was my first SEP novel, and remains one of my favorites (it was like opening Pandora's box!). I remember that the heroine was not perfect, physically or personality-wise, and it was so refreshing! Lorenzo was multilayered, and delightful to peel! A great read! (Debora Zamacona 10:12am August 15, 2014)
I'm a huge SEP fan and can't believe I haven't read this book. I will be ordering it pronto. My favorite is Nobody's Baby But Mine --- have read it so many times. Looking forward to my autographed copy of Heroes! (Pam Westfall 12:28pm August 15, 2014)
I loved the posting, and as for the book - I sat there with my mouth open!! This is going to be one heck of a ride, once the cover is flipped open, and you start reading!! I plan on keeping a block of time, just for me, so I can sit and absorb the full impact of this book, because I can just sense how good it's going to be!! I know that Susan's book is going to be just as good!! There's one problem. With Susan's book, you'll need something cool handy, so that you can cool off, so a cool drink is definately in order. Your book will make for great Fall reading, which means a warm beverage. I suppose I'll have to just read them back-to- back. What a trip that will be!! Thank you again for a great posting!! (Peggy Roberson 1:16pm August 19, 2014)
Wow. I've missed Breathing Room. But that's ok. It's like unexpected treasure. There's a "new" SEP for me to read. Thanks, Loretta. I'm really looking forward to the potty training scene! (G S Moch 2:01pm August 19, 2014)
I haven't had the pleasure of reading any of Susan Elizabeth Phillip's books yet but, from the comments others have made, it seems I've really been missing out. Breathing Room looks like a good place to start. (Deb Philippon 5:43pm August 21, 2014)
I've read all of Susan's books - it's been a while since I read 'Breathing Room' - maybe it's time for a re-read! (Diane Sallans 8:54pm August 22, 2014)
This is a new author for me but sounds like books I would love to read !!I really enjoy reading different authors !! (Sharron Freelen 3:03am August 24, 2014)
That was one of the first contemporary romances books that I read. I have a friend that got me into SEP's books and have loved them since. She has the ability to make the characters come to life and her bantering witty conversations just make me LOL and have everyone staring at me. (I take a bus to work) So yes, I read a lot and love SEP book. Thank you Vickie for that give and thank you SEP for all of you stories I love to read. (Tina Ullrich 12:59pm August 26, 2014)
I love how smart romance writers and readers are. If only the world-in-general knew! (Mary Ann Dimand 8:37am August 26, 2014)
This sounds like a great read. All of the ingredients for a terrific book. (Denise Austin 8:42pm August 30, 2014)
