Korine McFaile has managed to keep her sense of humor surrounding her mother-in-law Dora's increasing "absentmindedness." After all, at least Dora hasn't killed anybody. Until now. Somehow, she got the car keys and ran over poor old Olan Taggart at the Shady Acres retirement home. The police are calling it a tragic accident. And nobody is really listening to what Dora has to say—her mind is just too fragile.

But Korine and her two best friends, the trio of landscapers known as Three Dirty Women, have been restoring the gardens at Shady Acres and have stumbled onto a few other untimely deaths involving the elderly residents. Korine soon discovers that Olan was dead before Dora lost control of her car. But who killed him? The trail involves plenty of dirt—most of it buried—before the true motive is exposed down to its deep and twisted roots.
