Charles Bush

Charles Bush

Charles Bush is a former attorney whose clients ranged from inmates on San Quentin Prison’s Death Row to residents of embattled San Francisco Bay houseboat communities. His first novel, What Went Wrong With Oscar Toll? (2014), tells the story of a lawyer handling a death penalty appeal and won the award for Best Legal Thriller in the 2015 National Indie Excellence Book Awards. His second novel, Houseboat Wars (2019), is set in 1977 amidst battles over rebellious young people living in houseboats on San Francisco Bay. Charles is currently working on a historical novel set in eighteenth-century China.

Charles was born in Kansas City, Missouri; graduated from Harvard College and the University of Chicago Law School; and currently lives in San Francisco with his husband in an 1877 Victorian they’ve renovated.
