I’m the author of the bestselling collection This Cake Is for the Party. The Giller Prize jury said that my stories “elevate economy of expression itself to an art,” and this is exactly what I have been teaching other writers to do for more than a decade. I’m known for my living room writing classes in Victoria, BC and Toronto, Ontario, where I developed my unique hybrid workshops. I believe in mindfulness, honesty, and piercing analysis, both in writing and life. My motto: your writing needs your whole heart if you want it to feel real, but damn, it also needs technique.
