Troy Cook

Troy Cook

Troy Cook has worked on over eighty feature films, starting his career as an assistant cameraman and working his way up to writing and directing.

Troy has traveled around the world, shooting movies in exotic locales, including a three month stint in Russia. He was among the first Americans to film in Red Square, and an attempted coup took place during shooting. At one point, riots and demonstrations stopped production and the crew was forced to flee the area. Luckily, the Russian mafia kept things under control for the remainder of the film.

In 1993 Troy wrote his first screenplay and directed his first film. His debut on this futuristic movie earned him recognition and the financing for his next film, THE TAKEOVER. This organized crime / action picture had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1994. THE TAKEOVER recently made headlines when its executive producers were arrested for murder. The arrest was particularly newsworthy because of its remarkable similarity to the film’s plot, as well as the producer’s alleged connection to the Gambino crime family.

Troy wrote, produced, and directed his final and most ambitious film, PHOENIX, in 1995. After the production ended, and with the birth of a new baby boy, Troy chose to leave both the craziness of the movie business and Los Angeles, relocating his family to a small, cozy town in Colorado.

Safely ensconced, he decided to follow his dream to write novels and put his storytelling talent to work on the humorous crime genre that he enjoys so much. His award-winning debut, 47 RULES OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE BANK ROBBERS, received eight nominations including the Anthony, Book of the Year, the Macavity, and the Lefty Award. His second novel, THE ONE MINUTE ASSASSIN (Sept 2007), was immediately picked by the Ind. Mystery Booksellers Assn. as a "Killer Book" and was featured in Publishers Weekly as a "Fall Indie Surprise."
