Helena, her husband Daniel, and their two children didn't have the easiest start in their new house on Shetland. After they moved in the previous owner hanged himself in the barn, and the local community is not so welcoming. Helena has started to receive small drawings of a gallows with a hanged man. Then, their son makes a horrifying discovery out in the barn.

With WILD FIRE, book eight in the Shetland Island series is Ann Cleeves now ending the series. So, it was with bittersweet emotions that I read the very last book. I have loved following Jimmy Perez through cases and I have also loved reading about Shetland. Ann Cleeves has really made me feel like I've been to Shetland thanks to her books. So, I want to say thank you, Ann, for these eight books. It's been a blast!

WILD FIRE is a fitting end to a series. It's a strong book with a sad case. Willow Reeves and Jimmy Perez have to work through some personal stuff while at the same time try to find out the truth about a young girl's death. It's not an easy case, but slowly the truth is revealed which leads to a powerful and heartbreaking conclusion. I always enjoy investigations that pretty much start with nothing and slowly gets it footing as more and more truths are revealed. Jimmy, Sandy, and Willow are a great team, despite some friction between Jimmy and Willow. I will miss them all!

The book ended in a way that made me feel both satisfied and at the same time a bit sad. It has been a great journey and I recommend this series warmly to readers of crime novels. Lucky you all who have yet read this book or have all eight to read.
