At the risk of sounding redundant, Jill Shalvis is one of
those must read authors. She never fails to amaze me. I
start reading a new book by this classy writer and I'm
hooked. It's like unwrapping a delicious decadent fudge
brownie and winding up devouring it in one sitting when you
had planned spreading out the joy over hours if not days.
RAINY DAY FRIENDS is one of those delectable Jill Shalvis
stories. I personally have a thing for edgy characters and
there's an entire family of those in RAINY DAY FRIENDS.
Expect to smile and laugh out loud while reading RAINY DAY
FRIENDS, after all it is a Jill Shalvis story. Sometimes I
feel like a broken record, but the truth is the truth. I
love Jill Shalvis and her characters, but even more so her
gift of gab -- or actually that of her people.
Case in point, one of the characters passed along her iPad
password, which was ihateeveryone247. I defy you to not
laugh out loud and wish you had thought of that. You see it
perfectly fits Mia who is in charge of vineyard tours and
working with people that come to see the family's property
and such. But I digress. Mia isn't really the star of RAINY
DAY FRIENDS and that's the joy of a Jill Shalvis book --
everyone has an important role.
Lanie Jacobs can't believe her good fortune landing a job
as a graphic artist at Capriotti Winery. Her task was to create
new labels, etc., but Cora Capriotti insisted that Lanie
work on
site so Lanie temporarily relocated to Wildstone, CA. Lanie
needed a change. And working at Capriotti Winery for Cora
was going to be just the thing. That is if Lanie could get
a handle on how working with this huge family actually
functioned.
You learn a lot about Cora right from the start when she so
graciously welcomes Lanie to the company, to lunch, and to
her family which she immediately states that she will share
with this newcomer. We all get to meet much of the
Capriotti family at that first lunch. Cora's daughters Mia
and Alyssa and, of course, the grandparents that started the
winery. But that's when we all become entranced by some of
the best characters ever imagined. And luckily for us, Jill
Shalvis puts them on paper so that we can revisit them
often.
And, of course, there are the requisite men who are gorgeous,
witty, and fabulous. But Mia had me at hello. After all who
could resist a girl that says that water is not only good
to drink, but has many other noteworthy purposes. Trust me,
this conversation will get a chuckle out of just about
anyone.
Well, that's all I'm going to tell you about the folks
that star in Jill Shalvis' latest fabulous book RAINY DAY
FRIENDS. Looking for a major fun fest read for this summer?
Well, look no further, RAINY DAY FRIENDS is it!
Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife. Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person? Can she even trust herself? Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan. Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Brown changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty- one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.
