Mystery
Annabelle Bingham, her husband Trib and their son Oliver
have just moved into the house at 46 Bridge Street in
Mundy's Landing. This house is one of the infamous Murder
Houses where one of three young female victims were tucked
into bed after being murdered. No one had ever identified
these young girls even though they had been killed in the
summer of 1916.
Every summer, tourists flock to Mundy's Landing to see the
three Murder Houses as well as try to solve the mystery of
the killer's identity along with those of the three young
girls. After the third girl was found, there were no more
murders, which makes it even more intriguing. It's clear why
this house has been for sale for years although the owner of
the house has always been another problem. That house is in
his family and he is very particular about the conditions of
selling it.
It seems that the peculiar man feels that the Binghams meet
his conditions and he agrees to sell it for a very
affordable price. Once the they move in, strange things
begin to happen along with the summer tourists arriving to
stand in droves outside of 46 Bridge street. Annabelle
becomes quite interested in learning more about those long
ago murders and begins to research them. This becomes
especially important to her when young girls begin to go
missing in Mundy's Landing. She feels that her family might
be targeted by this copycat killer and she intends to
protect them at all costs.
BLUE MONDAY is the second installment of the Mundy's Landing
trilogy and is just as terrifying as book one. While it is a
part of a trilogy, BLUE MONDAY can also work as a standalone
book because it offers background information on The
Sleeping Beauty Murders as well as bring cameo appearances
of key characters from BLOOD RED, the first book. However,
you should not deprive yourself of the reading experience
provided by the beginning story.
Wendy Corsi Staub is one of my all-time favorite writers and
I have read nearly everything she has published. She is a
consummate wordsmith with the ability to create some of the
most terrifying scenes that can be transmitted to paper. The
characters in BLUE MONDAY as well as all of her books are
three dimensional to the point of being able to imagine them
in your own living room.
As with most of Ms. Staub's books, I found myself imagining
BLUE MONDAY as a movie and was mentally selecting actors
that I felt would be perfect to play the parts of her
characters. BLUE MONDAY provides a bit of all types of
emotions and you will find yourself drawn into this very
puzzling and frightening tale of madness.
A word of caution: If you read BLUE MONDAY at night, you may
want to keep your drapes drawn, doors and windows locked and
all of your lights on.
SUMMARY
New York Times bestselling author Wendy Corsi Staub returns
to Mundy’s Landing – a small town where bygone bloodshed has
become big business. Hair neatly braided, hands serenely clasped, eyes closed,
the young woman appeared to be sound asleep. But the
peaceful tableau was a madman’s handiwork. Beneath the
covers, her white nightgown was spattered in blood. At
daybreak, a horrified family would discover her corpse
tucked into their guest room. The cunning killer would
strike again…and again…before vanishing into the mists of time. A century ago, the Sleeping Beauty Murders terrified
picturesque Mundy’s Landing. The victims, like the killer,
were never identified. Now, on the hundredth anniversary,
the Historical Society’s annual “Mundypalooza” offers a
hefty reward for solving the notorious case.
