"Richly drawn supernatural world features a new take on the fae"

The House of the Rising Sun

Fantasy Urban

Augustine Robelais had a rough childhood but his adult life has been far more idyllic, now that he is surrounded by people who accept his fae heritage. His joy at returning to New Orleans is tempered by the threat of the fae high council as Augustine recently violated a major fae rule. Unfortunately, Augustine is soon going to be thrust into a role where the responsibility for all of New Orleans will rest on his warrior shoulders... including that of Olivia Goodwin's daughter, Harlow. Harlow has her own secret, but will her pride and curiosity destroy her?

HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN is the first book in a new series from Kristen Painter. While Augustine apparently appeared in her prior series, House of Comarré, it is not necessary to read any of that series to enjoy HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN. Instead, Kristen Painter does a marvelous job at crafting her world in such a way that the two series may intertwine but easily stand alone.

HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN is one of those odd books where I initially liked neither main character and yet couldn't put the story down. Kristen Painter does a spectacular job at drawing the reader in and allowing them to see the fears that haunt Augustine and Harlow. By the end of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN, I wanted more and you can bet I'll be reading her House of Comarré series for glimpses of Augustine!

I love reading stories about the fae and Kristen Painter puts a whole new twist on this supernatural species. We delve into a dark, shadowy world where vampires, witches, and the fae uneasily coexist. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN has it all- from a richly drawn supernatural world to strong multidimensional characters to the sheer beauty of New Orleans. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN is the first book I've read by Kristen Painter but it will not be the last!

SUMMARY

Every vampire has heard rumor of the mythical place where their kind can daywalk. But what no vampire knows is that this City of Eternal Night actually exists. And its name is New Orleans. For centuries, the fae have protected the city from vampire infestation. But when the bloodsuckers return, the fragile peace in New Orleans begins to crumble. Carefree playboy Augustine, and Harlow, a woman searching for answers about her absent father, are dragged into the war. The fate of the city rests on them --- and their fae blood that can no longer be denied.
