Texas Ranger Tec Bragg has a lot going on in his life at the moment with a traumatized nephew living under his roof and a brand new murder case in his jurisdiction. At first glance, it seems as if the hanging victim killed himself, but upon closer inspection, Bragg has his doubts. He begins an investigation that will lead to places that shock even him.
Greer Templeton's farm is one of those places where he is led as he looks into the death of the hanging man. Greer has been trying to put the nightmare in her past behind her for 12 years by working and operating her late aunt's grape farm. She seems to have done pretty well for herself considering and is planning to start making her own wine within a year. When Bragg comes to her door with questions about his murder victim, she is thrown back into the past with a vengeance.
It begins to get worse as more victims linked to her start piling up. All roads seem to point to Greer being a target as well. She knows that secrets can be killers sometimes but the secrets she doesn't know might be more dangerous than she imagined. As she and Bragg tentatively draw closer together, she will do anything to survive and he will do anything to keep her safe.
But will good intentions be enough?
YOU'RE NOT SAFE is Mary Burton's third entry in her Texas Ranger novels and is just as much of a nail biter as the first two. She really has a way with plot lines and her delivery is flawless. YOU'RE NOT SAFE carries just the right amount of suspense, creepiness, and romance that, when mixed together, creates a satisfying mystery with a shocker ending.
Ms. Burton makes you react to her characters whether you love them, hate them or fear them. You still come away from one of her books with a sense that you've been in the presence of some pretty interesting characters. It's nice that she also gives characters from previous books some cameos in the present ones. She really makes you attached to them and you want to know more about what is going on in their lives. That's just how real her stories are.
The only problem with YOU'RE NOT SAFE is that you should not begin reading it unless you have the time to stay with it because you will not want to put it down for any reason until that final page is reached. Otherwise, pick up a copy today with the confidence that you're in for a rather mind-bending experience.
