Still suffering from the psychological aftermath of the
Islamic terrorist attack on New York City that ended in the
death of one of his key agents and girlfriend, Detective
Jeremy Fisk has been assigned to desk duty. As a key
antiterrorist officer in the NYPD's Intelligence Division,
it is definitely not a restful desk duty job! Not only is
it filled with organizing the logistics for all the heads
of state coming to his beloved New York for United Nations
Week, but he is also called upon to provide expertise to
Homicide on the grisly discovery of thirteen bodies that
had been dumped on a lonely beach area called Rockaway.
Commandante Cecilia Garza of the Policía Federal has come
to Manhattan to provide protection for the newly elected
President of Mexico. The lovely Garza is fiercely
protective of President Vargas as he had been her professor
at university. Her idealistic university days are now long
gone and Garza is known as The Ice Queen as she has had to
always show a tough and ruthless side to others. Garza has
been on the hunt for the elusive head of a large drug gang
who has been called the Chuparosa. Hearing about the
murders, Garza instantly connects them to Chuparosa as he
is known for his cruelty and deadly methods, yet she gets
little buy-in from Fisk as he has too many other fish to
fry in getting ready for United Nations Week and is too
heavily involved in ensuring the safety for all the
political leaders that will also need protection. Is there
anything that Garza can do to get him to pay attention?
Will she be able to save Vargas? If they can't work
together on this, the international fallout and
repercussions could have the worst possible consequences!
As the creator of the hugely popularly Law & Order series,
New York Times best-selling author Dick Wolf already has a
strong writing reputation and THE EXECUTION is sure to add
to that renown. This second novel centered on Jeremy Fisk
is a great stand-alone thriller, yet, I would fully
recommend reading Wolf's debut novel, THE INTERCEPT, first
for maximum high octane reading thrills. Having read both
books, I know Wolf's existing fans will be thoroughly
thrilled with THE EXECUTION and new readers will definitely
become strong fans. The action is intense and visceral
with twisting roller coaster rides of page turning action
interspersed with back stories about the characters and
little clues that only get fully revealed in the very
dramatic and unexpected powerful conclusion.
The carefully constructed and well researched plot
development rings so very true to life, you will think it
is unfolding in front of you. It certainly highlights how
easily the best laid plans can quickly spiral out of
control. Jeremy Fisk is also a terrific and very likable
protagonist. He is highly competent in his work and loyal
to his organization, but ready to bend the rules inside out
if other priorities (in his mind) need attention. I am
very impressed with how Wolf does his character development
and especially as he describes the interactions between
the two main characters as they start their edgy and
guarded working partnership. Bottom Line: I can't wait
for Wolf to write more books featuring Jeremy Fisk! If you
like fast action police procedural novels, you are sure to
enjoy this exciting thriller!
NYPD Detective Jeremy Fisk—introduced in Law &
Order creator Dick Wolf’s New York Times
bestselling debut The Intercept—must stop an
assassin in the pay of a shadowy cartel in The
Execution, a tense thriller that superbly blends
suspense, politics, intrigue and high-flying action in the
tradition of Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, and Robert
Crais.
Ten days after the Mexican presidential
election, twenty-three bodies are discovered beheaded on the
United States border, each marked with a carving of a
Hummingbird. Detective Cecilia Garza of the Mexican
intelligence agency recognizes it: it is the signature of an
assassin called Chuparosa. Garza has been pursuing the
killer for years, yet knows little about him, except that
he’s heading to New York—with the rest of the
world.
It’s United Nations Week in Manhattan and
Jeremy Fisk can’t let grief over a devastating loss keep him
from safeguarding his city. Complicating matters is the
startling news of a mass murder in nearby Rockaway—and the
arrival of a disturbingly beautiful and assertive Mexican
cop.
To have a chance at finding Chuparosa, these
uneasy allies must learn to work together and fast. As they
soon discover, there’s more to this threat than meets the
eye—and that justice is not always blind.
