The grass is not always greener on the other side in Sillicon Valley; THE SOCIAL CODE brings friendship, love, greed, business, and lust. The Dory twins, Amelia and Adam, find this out for themselves in Sadie Hayes' new novel, THE SOCIAL CODE.
Amelia and Adam Dory are the underdogs in Sillicon Valley. They have grown up bouncing around from foster home to foster home. They get lucky and are offered scholarships to Standford University and a new life. Amelia is a technology genius and is ready to take on this tech-savvy world. Adam is a dreamer that only wants the money that comes from being prosperous in Sillicon Valley. When Amelia comes across a secret that could take down the head business man in Sillicon Valley things begin to get very dangerous for the Dory twins.
Things only become more complicated when Adam convinces Amelia to start a new company. They never realized how much their pasts would catch up with them. They quickly find themselves in situations that they could have never imagined. Not even their tragic backgrounds can compare to the things the powerful peers from Sillicon Valley can do to them.
The first half of THE SOCIAL CODE I was on the fence about how I felt about it. It was a good book, and a great story line but I was having problems being fully pulled in. But by the second half Sadie Hayes had me sold.
THE SOCIAL CODE quickly takes you into a world full of betrayal and backstabbing. Nothing that happens to Amelia and Adam is anything that they can ever expect. While their old life was tragic, they aren't well accustomed to this new life where people will sell you out or blackmail you for the right price. The twins definitely have their work cut out for them if they want to make it in this new world.
The world building and characters are amazing. I wasn't sure about the point of view at first since I felt a little disconnected, but it turned out to work perfectly. I loved how Hayes used multiple points of views so that I could see what was going on with more than one character at all times. Learning all the personalities really made THE SOCIAL CODE a better experience for me.
There are several twists that are really unexpected and a huge cliffhanger that will definitely have me reading the next one. I really can't go without knowing what happens to the Dory twins. Luckily I want have to wait that long since Hayes' second installment, The Next Big Thing, will be out November 26, 2013.
