Shawn has a mission to kidnap Dr. Kayleigh Lauderdale, a
woman who has been working on a super secret project and who
also has a cure for what's killing the city's witches. She
is the daughter of Shawn's sworn enemy, a man who he is
determined to see dead, by his hands, of course. He's hoping
this will ease his pain and complete his need for vengeance
for his family's horrible demise. Things get complicated
when he's instantly attracted to Dr. Lauderdale, and next he
just can't seem to stop imagining his hands all over her.
The feelings are mutual. Except they each have an agenda,
and with Kayleigh being stronger than Shawn had anticipated,
he's going to have to fight just to keep her in his control.
Will they be able to act on their growing feelings for each
other, while a war is waged between them, or will they have
to let each other go
Raw, intense, fast-paced like a lightning bolt that runs
through your body. The characters are perfectly flawed, a
real Romeo and Juliet romance, torn between two worlds and a
family feud of sorts. What's there to do with all of the
violence and fighting but fall in love? I was rooting for
Shawn and Kayleigh early on in the book, and the scenes were
so visceral, each stab of pain so real, that I had to put
ONE FOR THE WICKED down at times to show myself that I
wasn't the one
getting injured during the action scenes. Ms. Cooper is a
talented writer with the chops to pull of the tension and
intensity with grace, smoothly flowing into a bang up
ending. Read her work, folks. That's all I can say. Her
writing style has the right balance of word choice to pull
you in, hooking claws in deep, keeping you from putting the
book down. The witty snark in the dialogue left me smirking,
and maybe even giving a snort or two. Old Seattle is a dark,
decaying sludge hole that she painted well. There is a stark
contrast between the grungy city below and the sparkling
city above in New Seattle, and it worked well to mirror the
differences between Shawn and Kayleigh, again, driving my
desire for them to be together.
Opposites attract, right?
There's some super steamy sex scenes that are peppered
around small but tense moments of closeness. The pacing is
great, and the storyline that drives Shawn and his team was
wrought with determination and old vengeance, pushing it
constantly along. ONE FOR THE WICKED is a fantastic finale
for the series
that deserves to be reread time and again.
Dr. Kayleigh Lauderdale possesses the only cure for what's
killing the city's witches. Desperate to acquire it, the
resistance sends their best agent, but Shawn Lowe has his
own agenda and it doesn't include saving anyone–least
of all, the daughter of his sworn enemy. He has to ignore
the blistering attraction he feels the instant they meet,
because he can't give in until he gets what he wants. He
just never counted on wanting her...
Kayleigh can't believe how out of control Shawn makes her
feel. He lies to her with one breath and excites her beyond
reason the next. A reckless encounter could steal her
heart, while the danger hovering over the city may prove
too much for either of them to handle. When the world turns
upside down, it will take everything Kayleigh and Shawn
have to hold on... to life, to hope, to each other.
