NEFERET\'S CURSE by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast is a journal
written by Neferet when she was still the human Emily
Wheiler. From the first page till the last page NEFERET\'S
CURSE is fast paced, interesting and intriguing. Emily
makes her first journal entry on January 15th, 1893,
exactly two and a half months,(on November 1st, 1892),
after her mother died in childbirth giving birth to a
lifeless baby boy. This is the event that changes Emily\'s
life forever.
Over the next six months we follow her life as written by her,
in her words and emotions. The journal is very personal
and gives the readers an up close and personal look into
who Neferet was in last six months of her human life and
what helped to shape the person she is today. I am not sure if
reading this journal will change your mind one way or the
other about how you feel about her, but it will most
certainly help you see what went on in her life leading up
to her change.
As she continues with where her mother left
as lady of Wheiler house, she is expected to give the dinner
parties and act the gracious host. Especially with the
coming of The Columbian Exposition that will put Chicago on
the map.
Barrett H. Wheiler ( Emily\'s father), president of
the First National Bank of Chicago, the bank that is
financing the expo and a very important man in Chicago. He
is very demanding and cannot separate the fact that Emily
is not her mother Alice. Barrett demands that Emily takes
her mother\'s place on his right at the dinner table, take
her place twice a week as a volunteer at the General
Federation of Women\'s Club and wear her mother\'s dresses
for various events. When she starts to notice that her
father is staring at her more and more and making her
uncomfortable she starts to plan how she is going to escape
his house.
There is only one place she is able to escape
too that she can have some peace and think, that is the
garden. She loves the quiet and the fountain that her
father gave her mother as a wedding gift. But she is never
able to sneak out there until it is night and she is sure
she will not run into her father.
NEFERET\'S CURSE is a must
read for anyone that is a House of Night fan.
The White City, 1893: In turn-of-the-century
Chicago, with the World’s Fair bringing bustle and
excitement to her home city, sixteen-year-old Emily
Wheiler should be reveling in her youthful beauty and
the excitement around her. But her whole life
changed when her mother died, leaving her to
be the Lady of Wheiler House. Her father, a powerful bank
president, is at the center of an important social hub
for the booming young city, and he needs Emily to do
everything her mother would have – to be a good
hostess
and make sure the mansion runs smoothly.
As
Emily uneasily tries to replace her mother, she also longs
for more… for love and a life of her own. When a
handsome young man notices her at one of her father’s
parties, it seems that her hopes may finally be coming true.
Until her father forbids her to see him – or any other man
–
and starts revealing a darkly violent side that even he
can’t understand.
At last, afraid for her life and
with nowhere to turn, Emily is Marked by a vampyre and
brought to the Chicago House of Night, where she begins a
magickal new life that should allow the wounds from her
past to heal. But as she gains strength, and a powerful
new name, she carries a dark need to wreak vengeance on the
man she trusted most.
From victim to High
Priestess, beautiful young woman to powerful seductress,
Neferet's journey begins in NEFERET'S CURSE...
