Picking up a year after the events in CREEP have ended, Dr.
Sheila Tao, her fiance Morris, friends Jerry Isaac and
Marianne Chang are all back in FREAK to continue dealing
with the beautiful nightmare that goes by the name of Abby
Maddox.
A year later finds Sheila trying to nail Morris down
regarding a date for their wedding but he's hesitant to do
it just now. Also during that time, Jerry and Marianne have
separated due to what happened to Jerry at the end of CREEP.
Even though they love each other still, there were just some
things that they couldn't get past. But the connection is
still there and it's this connection that keeps either of
them from totally moving on and away from each other.
As for accused murderer, the very beautiful Abby Maddox,
she's sitting in prison until things can be sorted out
enough to get her to trial. Abby's boyfriend was the
infamous Ethan Wolfe, alleged serial killer from CREEP.
She's somewhat of a celebrity even though she's considered
to be very dangerous. But she's beautiful and seductive and
a master manipulator. That makes her even more dangerous and
deadly.
Abby blames both Sheila and Jerry for her being behind bars
and she's got a lot to get even with them for. At least in
her mind. What no one realizes is that Abby has a plan. It
involves someone who is out in the city of Seattle killing
women who look a lot like Abby and leaving a little message
behind. She makes a deal with the police where if she can
aid in the arrest of this new killer, that she will be
transferred to a minimum security prison as well as be
granted immunity. She would, instead, be serving out her
rather short sentence in relative comfort.
The search for the killer becomes even more urgent as more
dead women keep turning up. Desperate for any help they can
get, the police turn to Abby for anything she may know. It's
this information that eventually catches their killer. But
that's only the beginning of the long, tortuous and deadly
road that's still ahead for them.
Subsequent events beg the questions of just how will Sheila,
Jerry, Marianne and Morris come out in the end. Will they
survive the evil of Abby? Or will it be the end that Abby
plans for them?
There are so many things going on in FREAK that it's
impossible to list them all. Besides, I wouldn't want to
ruin the story for those who haven't read it. CREEP and
FREAK should definitely be read in that order because FREAK
is a sequel. It was impossible to put FREAK down once I had
started reading it. While reading both of these books, I
couldn't stop picturing them as movies. That's the
phenomenal feeling that Jennifer Hillier provides to her
readers. I can't wait until her next book is published. If
you love nail biting suspense, believable plots, and three
dimensional characters that stay with you long after you've
read the last page, don't miss FREAK.
Sitting alone in a maximum-security prison cell, Abby
Maddox is a celebrity. Her claim to fame is the envy of
every freak on the outside: she’s the former lover of Ethan
Wolfe, the killer who left more than a dozen dead women in
his wake and nearly added Puget Sound State professor
Sheila Tao to the tally. Now Abby, serving a nine-year
sentence for slashing a police officer’s throat in a moment
of rage, has little human contact — save for the letters
that pour in from demented fans, lunatics, and creeps. But
a new wave of murders has given Abby a possible chance for
a plea bargain — because this killer has been sending her
love letters, and carving a message on the bodies of the
victims: Free Abby Maddox.
Jerry Isaac will never forget the attack — or his attacker.
The hideous scarring and tortured speech are daily
reminders that the one-time Seattle PD officer, now a
private investigator, is just lucky to be alive. Abby
Maddox deserves to rot in jail — forever, as far as Jerry’s
concerned. But she alone may possess crucial evidence —
letters from this newest killer — that could crack open the
disturbing case.
With the help of Professor Sheila Tao, seasoned police
detective Mike Torrance, and intuitive criminology student
Danny Mercy, Jerry must coax the shattering truth from
isolated, dangerous Abby Maddox. Can he put the pieces
together before Abby’s number one fan takes another life in
the name of a killer’s perverted idea of justice?
