Fantasy Urban

Kitt Jordan has left her job as Chief Medical Examiner to take a position at the New York Academy attended by both human and parahuman students, teaching Parahuman Forensic Pathology. She is sick of death and of grieving. Her brother's murder is still a wound too fresh.

But a serial killer is ripping the still-beating hearts out of teen shape shifters, and Oberon, an old friend and now head of Security for the school, has formed a task force that badly needs her expertise. If only the man who affects her most was not also on the team, Raven, the father of her children.

Kitt has braced herself for the contact with the twins, not knowing if the young women would welcome or shun her. The twins were due to begin their studies at the New York Academy so their meeting was inevitable. Having Raven there as well was almost too much to bear.

The Academy's security forces are made up of old friends from the Violent Crimes Unit of the Department for Parahuman security, but more than the security for the school, they have taken on the task of running the serial killer down and getting him behind bars. The evil bastard has been tied to more crimes than those currently making headlines, including the murder of her brother. But worse than that, the murders point to signs that the Dark Brethren may be stirring again. With the ousting of Oberon, the Violent Crimes Unit is led by a politically motivated and otherwise incompetent prick which means the only beings standing between the world and disaster could be the group Oberon has put together.

Hampered by the need to work under the radar, they still are some of best investigators alive and the best chance to stop this killer before he goes one murder too far.

Tracey O'Hara has put together the perfect blend of Urban Fantasy and crime thriller. The romantic situation created between Kitt and Raven only deepens the tension without detracting from the main plot of solving the mystery. DEATH'S SWEET EMBRACE is the second in the Dark Brethren series. Book one was Night's Cold Kiss and there is also a prequel, Dante Rising available on the author's site as a free download. SUMMARY

After centuries of secret conflict, humans and parahumans have reached an uneasy truce. But unspeakable evil now threatens the tenuous peace.

Teenaged shapeshifters are being slaughtered by a sadistic serial killer who rips their still-beating hearts from their paralyzed bodies. A task force forms to halt the madness, including the vampiric Aeternus Antoinette Petrescu, as well as Kitt Jordan and Raven Matokwe, members of enemy Animalian tribes . . . and forbidden lovers.

A centuries-old blood feud has divided their shapeshifting peoples, and if their passion is discovered it will doom them both. But past hostilities must be put aside, for the killer they seek is but the first sign of the all- consuming nightmare of The Dark Brethren.
