Karl's pilgrimage as an initiate for the Mattaen monks is quickly coming to an end. On his 30th birthday, he will gain access to the tombs that promise the extreme knowledge that becoming a true monk offers. Karl's training over the past decade, along with his roaming of the barren land, has brought him to a village near the temple where he will take his vows. The township is taking a young woman to an altar; the rumor is she's chosen to become the virginal sacrifice to the dragon. Karl feels the dragon legend is suspect, until he offers himself as the sacrifice, and the shadow of a dragon enters into his vision.

Elera, the daughter of Shane, is responding to a summons from the people to slay the dragon before it takes the life of one of the village virgins. Her skill as a warrior and dragon slayer comes out tenfold as she works to save the man fighting for his life with the dragon. Elera is pleasantly surprised that the virgin is a male because it will make her request for payment for assisting the removal of the dragon much easier. She rarely shows herself to the common citizens of the land below, but she is desperate to save her own kind. Her ulterior motive consists of giving the Breath of Fire to her chosen one.

BREATH OF FIRE is an exciting new tale of a world where dragons are real and powerful, just like those who command them. If you're looking for a great story with a unique twist on fantasy, this is definitely a must-read.
