American Diva

Romance Contemporary | Contemporary Chick Lit

Audrey LaRue achieved pop stardom rather quickly with the help of her attentive but career-minded manager/boyfriend, Lucas Bonner. She's annoyed that he commits her to perform a private concert at a wealthy middle-aged man's birthday party on a tropical island. Jack Price, part-owner of Thrillseekers Anonymous, is annoyed too. He's supposed to be giving lazy, drunk partygoers an "extreme sports" experience but instead finds himself seeking solitude on a deserted stretch of sand. Audrey wants to relax at any cost, but even when she offers cash for Jack's beach chair, he refuses the demands of the AMERICAN DIVA.

Audrey is about to embark on her first major music tour, but a series of threatening letters casts a shadow over her success. Without consulting her first, Lucas hires Jack Price to keep her safe. While providing security on tour, Jack has trouble getting past Audrey's diva attitudes. He finds Audrey attractive and intriguing but doesn't want to be distracted from his primary duty -- protecting her from an increasingly bold and ominous threat. Audrey doesn't know who to trust, especially when she finds herself caught between her bodyguard and her boyfriend. Jack and Lucas both claim to value her interests and her heart.

Creating sympathy for a wealthy, successful singer/songwriter can be tricky because, of course, it seems as if the pop diva has already achieved her dreams and shouldn't be complaining. Julia London creates a sympathetic character whose ambitions thankfully include more than fame and fortune. Audrey loves success but hates the attention of the tabloid media. Readers will adore her naive and trusting spirit, even as they quickly turn pages to reach the conclusion of the suspenseful subplot. Ultimately a sexy feel-good romance, this story is a journey for human connection and happiness through, love, family and great music!

SUMMARY

Jack Price has one dream: to own and operate a flight school. For him, any job that gets him closer to his goal is worth it, no matter how difficult. So when the opportunity to guard today's hottest pop singer comes along, Jack leaps at the chance. Not long ago, he had a sexy encounter with this American sweetheart - which makes taking this job pretty sweet. But the vixen he knew has turned into a raging diva — and there's no way he'll let her walk all over him like she's doing to everyone else.

Audrey LaRue is the latest "It" girl. Everybody wants her - or wants something from her. She's being hounded by the paparazzi, her fans, and her boyfriend-turned-manager. And now she has a deadly stalker. Only Jack Price, her sexy, fearless bodyguard, is grounded enough to protect her - and put her in her place. Audrey must learn to trust him, not only with her life, but with her heart.
